These are all too common on ebay - the notoriously faked perth mint gold bars

0 feedback from seller and obvious fake even from the bad photos. Someone has bid on it as well for £710!!

The really irritating bit is many of these people are actually leaving positive feedback. Then they will sell it one day completely oblivious that it is fake.

I just looked now the fake coin went to£830. Any more let everyone know. THANK you. This is why I started a discussion about this subject. Even if I step on people's toes.

I just noticed on the paypal checkout that I was about to pay with an echeque again.

I must have just clicked without noticing in the past but there is a drop down to change the option to 'pay with paypal balance' and other stuff like cards.

Ive been caught out by echeques a few times (and I probably will again :D )

Yes.  Illegal to make copies. Sell copies.  Attempting to spend copies.

You would think common currency forgeries would get ebay to sit up and notice.

Fake Krugs are also 'protected coins' and forgers of those should be treated the same as £20 note counterfeiters.

But then it's ebay isnt it.

Another scammer on eBay...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191979102510

Whilst it says its gold plated...its in small print with the wonderful phrase...will only accept returns under strict ebay guidelines.

Its at £70 at the moment which is £69.99 too much if you ask me!

Ebay should really be doing more to clamp down on fake coins. I've had auctions cancelled because ebay are unhappy with the wording of my ad title and yet there happy to let people sell fake coins and rip people off.

Their fee is same for fake or real coin so they don't care as long as they collect their percentage.

I always see these German bars about.

This seller has over 5000 transactions and only 5 people have left negative feedback.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/German-SILVER-bars-2-X-10-gram-and-2-X-5-gramRARE-size-30MM-X-15MM-/232099001970?hash=item360a2db672:g:2t8AAOSwZd1Vbzct

The definition of 'German silver' is actually 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc.

So it has no silver content at all but because no one knows what 'German silver' means they assume its just silver from germany.

To me they are clearly fake but I have seen other listing on ebay of people selling there collection which contained a few of these bars.

Imagine what the spot price would be if everyone that purchased a fake had got the real thing instead.

Why the big gap between the description and the line about gold plated ;)

Your comeback there would be "Precious Metal Content:10 g" . So where is the 10 grams of precious metal?

I've been watching eBay a long time and I believe that some of the bids that these auctions receive could be from the same scammers who are selling the items.  If you are selling a fake bar - it would be a lot easier to trick someone into bidding on it if the bids go up close enough to where it might convince people that there is a chance it could be real. So you probably have the seller and the bidder - who could possibly be the same individual, running the scam.

If its seems to good to be true it probably is.  What stacker or collector do you know that would sell anything, especially on ebay, at less than spot.

EBay is a great place to find stuff but you need to know what you are doing.
