I have not yet started to buy slabbed coins. But the thoughts why I should was always on to be sure what you buy (or more what you get). As the slab acting more like a guarantee for authenticity.

But now there is both fake coins and fake slabbs out there :(

Is anyone really surprised?. Why anyone would buy a coin encased in a bit of plastic which will prevent you from checking its authenticity, is beyond me.

I'm with you on that one.

The problem is the fakers can use the ngc website or app as well and copy all the details.  Telling one mint coin from another in a slab and from a pic in an app could be difficult.

It's like cloning cars; there could have half-a-dozen cars all with the same ID's.

If you think about it, a plastic rectangled sealed container a coin inside with a code of its condition, that then sells for a lot more than the coin is worth. Who would of thought they would be ripped off.

Now fakes I reckon it must be harder to spot a fake in one of these big containers than in the hand or in a capsule.

If you want to see the effects of grading and how they become more relaxed overtime read into diamond grading and how the different diamond grading bodies grade at different levels to get the most work and how Jewellers will send a Diamond to the graders, this will happen and i am sure is happening with coins.
