Hi there,

I got into collecting silver and gold bullion earlier this year, originally as an investment strategy but quickly got hooked.  I'm Autistic and I my mind easily gets stuck on things, usually to obsession level, so one of the ways I tame that is to only pickup hobbies and interests that are positive and healthy, that way if I get obsessed with it it shouldn't be harmful or a negative issue.  When we understand the Autistic mind it can be tamed in a way that gives superior results to neurotypical minds :)

Also Autistic people have different senses, either exaggerated or sometimes dulled, depending.  For me I'm attracted to shiny things.  That sounds simple and it is.  Shiny stuff is simply more appealing to me than the average person!

I've seen the silver foruum for months as a guest and seen some videos too but have only just joined because I had some bad experiences recently that I want to share and also I've found a few things I like but I'm not sure where to find them.

I don't use US based sites to buy anything because I boycott the business model (no offence intended to any Americans reading).  Simply put, your businesses operate in the UK without paying much / any tax and have made the largest contribution to unemployment and closures on our shopping streets.  I buy from local sellers directly and have found a couple of local shops that I trust.  I've also been buying from Auctions but that has proven to be risky and I've made a couple of buys from pornbroker shops which I also worry about getting bad stuff from.

Anyway the biggest problem I had was with a fair sized order I sent  to Bullionbypost - who I'm outraged and insulted by and caused me significant losses and distress - and I plan to take to court (I've literally had weeks of sleepless nights because of them).  I'll post more on that later.

Another issue I had was getting a fake Kookaburra 1 ounce coin mixed in with some good coins when I bought a lot at auction.  For a few weeks it was my favorite coin and I even ordered more (genuine) Kookaburras because this first one looked so good.  Anyway turned out fake and I feel like a right idiot lol.

I'm worried about a half Sovereign I got at a pawnbroker too, so might post about that in case anyone can guide me what to do / check.

Here is what I'm interested in collecting, in case anyone else is interested:

  1. Dragon themed silver coins, like the Perth Mint silver dragons - I just love the designs and the shape and they seem to be a winner for going up in value.
  2. George & the Dragon / Valiant coins - including Royal Mint Valiants and to some extent Gold Soverigns
  3. Generally buying gold and silver at low premiums that I like the look of and is > 999 (soverigns the only exception so far at 22ct)
  4. Mints I like:  Perth Mint & Royal Mint mostly so far.

I do not think you should be discussing this on the forum, and especially if you are in court proceedings with them. That is between you and the dealer to sort out any issues, so I would advise not posting any further posts about that. Such topics could also cause issues for the forum. Though feel free to leave reviews for dealers in the dealer directory.

Be careful with eBay as we on TSF have seen a lot of suspicious listings and counterfeit coins there. Please throughly do your due diligence when buying precious metals.

Thanks Chris!  Yeah I won't use Ebay.  I was in a shop the other day and the owner didn't have what I was looking for so I left, and he shouted after me "have a look on Ebay, it's Great!" and I thought yes - that is why your shop is empty of customers and I'm leaving empty handed.
