Gold Mining - Risking It All

For anyone who is interested there is a 30 minute documentary on gold mining in Peru on Al Jazeera, part of their Risking It All series . It’s halfway through right now but will be repeated at 05:30 tomorrow morning and 00:30 and 09:30 on Monday.

I’ve set it to record, missed the first 10 mins and it is very interesting so gonna watch the whole thing tomorrow.

(sorry if this is in the wrong place, couldn’t see anywhere else to put it)

Assume you are talking about this @Mox

Sad what happens when illegal gold mining occurs in developed countries using mercury. Some other documentaries that show illegal gold mined from Latin America / Africa ending up in Dubai and then onto the Swiss refineries. Once gold melted and casted no way of knowing where the the origin of any Gold comes from.

I flicked through it and think it’s different, will watch them both tomorrow. There was no sneaking about in the one I saw 5 mins of today and it wasn’t their Tech Know show.

Thought i'd add to this ol' thread instead of making a new one. Just watched this VICE documentary on South Africa's underground illegal gold mines.

Really shocking and has made me think about the source of a lot of gold. The people and land that's destroyed in the pursuit of so much of it. I've never put much thought into these kind of sources trickling into the legal mined gold we all buy, but i would think it's far more common than we all know. Probably all own a fair amount of illegally mined gold ourselves.
