Does anyone have an idea when the Royal Mint website is likely to have the unicorn 2oz back in stock? Seems like it’s been ages since they last had some in.

I know I can get them elsewhere but like to buy a couple direct form the mint.

Yes , these capsules are hard to find because they are 38.6 mm double thickness the few quid extra are 1) peace of mind about quality 2) the capsules , you can sell them if you like

so it’s pretty much free bet for quality

Exactly the above. I like the fact they come in proper capsules and the exchange policy is great especially as the QB series do have their problems.

I bought direct from royal mint and my Unicorn did not come in a screw cap.  I sent it back because of a defect of the milky variety and and got another coin back without a screw cap.  Are they using 2 types of cap?

That’s odd. I’ve bought about 5 times from the RM and each time it’s come in a capsule! I’d be on the phone with them asking where my cap was! :)

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.  I didn't mean that it came with no cap.  I meant it had a cap but it was not the screw type    All my previous proofs have came with a screw cap but both Dragons came with a compression fit cap rather than the screw type.  Dunno if anyone else has this?

The “ new capsule “ are rubbish they crack and scratch so easy because they are thinner , not suitable for 2oz in my opinion

OP is talking about 2oz bullion coins, you are talking about 1oz proofs, lion & unicorn come with screw type capsules dragon come with push fit.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

Even if they came with a worse cap I’d still always pickup some from the RM just because I’d be at them if they sent me a rubbish coin...well outside of the usual marks on the Queens face

Well stop throwing your coins in the air like Scrooge McDuck and the capsules won’t break :)

Obviously that’s the goal!! Do you take me for an idiot!!  But you’re not meant to leave the capsule on in the pool...or swim for 30 minutes after eating!

the capsules would have to be uniform to fit the display box, that would be nice to have that

for stacking just leave them in the tubes

its just too much to be paying VAT for bullion coins, just get the law change

its just wasting time for the beasts to go traveling around and come back leaving the VAT behind, where they should not be there in the first place

Yeah I do wish I had the money to buy in tubes, but to collect the whole series I’m stuck with buying lower amounts.

I agree with the VAT on silver should be scrapped!
