  1. Auction fever. Something very common and potentially very dangerous. Participating to an auction is like go to a casino. You should set your mind/wallet BEFORE and not change your initial plan, never ever!! i mean fees can be 5% 10% 18% 25%; if you are able to control yourself, the final price you are ready to pay for a specific lot shouldnt change, is just a matter of adjusting bids to the fees. that's the theory, i know.
  2. as i get mine for sure... i was just commenting pics seen here...)
  3. Just lovely to me. First matte entering my collection (and first Sotd); love the way the numbers are represented. Reminds me of 1840's Vicky sovs
  4. no no i mean the 2023 proof sovereign. I was chosen as the ideal collector and got it directly from his majesty
  5. edited by adding 2012 Sotd
  6. woooot today i got my 2023 coronation proof sovereign....
  7. a full 1995 PF70 goes for 1000 gbp at the moment. To me is crazy money, but that's what the market is paying. Definitely not 1600 tho. I m not following halves, but i guess 450 would be a reasonable price.
  8. 45 days to get a no answer
  9. i quote you 100% on that, but on the other side i dont understand why, as we talk about memorial sovs, people get nervous. I personally bought both the bullion and the proof, and as collector i would never have missed them, and i never got them with the idea to make a profit out of them. Having said that i see how things are developping (memorial still available everywhere, i see the prices they make etc etc) and as of today i dont think its going to be that hell of investment. Too many around, squeezed between a Jubilee emission and a coronation year. In 5 years? i have no idea. In 10 years? no idea. But if i see how the jubilee is performing (unslabbed ones go for double the emission price) and how memorial is performing i have no doubt about which one i would call a wise investment. It is also not correct in my opinion mentioning today, to strenghten a reasoning, how 1989 or 2002-2005-2012 are performing. 1989 has been totally ignored for 20 years. If things were so clear i ask myself why people have not bought dozens when they were that cheap...?? 2002-5-12 are becoming more and more sought after only recently, and the recent sad passing of QEII plays a key role on that.
  10. i m not sure this is an hype phase; what is crucial is total minted number (1260); how many true sovereign collectors are out there? i never ever bought a coin in my life with the purpose of re selling it and i have never sold a single coin so far; (of course that might change, the future is not ours to see no?) i'd never part with it to make 7-800 gbp profit, this is not what i am collecting for. How many will hold? 1260 is not a large number. 20% will re sell? That means 250 Sotd on the market, but what will happen when they'll be bought by collectors that didnt make it on the 24 April? they'll hold... little by little the number of coronation Sotd available on the market will decrease (and the money asked for the few available will increase, that's simple logic). At that point (2k?) few that had originall held will decide to sell, (still, true collectors will never ever sell it) and that will eventually create a temporary hype in offer, but the numbers will be too low to create a domino effect on prices. Its a closed economy cycle. You cant compare with Jubilee or Memorial imho; this is a specific event linked to a day that is already part of history. Regardless of what RM will decide to do (and dilute) with the Coronation Proof
  11. i m good, i want the proof coronation set... so curse removed for freeeeee
  12. OMG i cant wait.. what time are they going to strike my sov tomorrow?? 🤭
  13. i read somewhere you were checking the Sotds performances on Ebay auctions? how much (assuming those are real transactions) are they selling for? regards,
  14. who missed it on 24-04 should try to secure 1 asap in my opinion. As said already my idea is that there wont be so many available on secondary market on regular basis. 1200 is a very limited number indeed, if you balance the number of collectionists worldwide and the importance of the event. Most of those 1200 will just rest within collections.
  15. i quite agree on everything, just a couple of comments 1989 is doing execptionally well now. It's litterally been ignored for 25-30 years 2017 yes indeed was a unique issue event and i regret having bought only 1 proof back at the time 2022 Platinum jubilee was indeed once in a life time event 2023 Sotd and Coronation yes they are and they will be special events 2022 Memorial; I keep thinking that was an "invented" once in a life time event. RM decided to go all in with an unnecessary full set of coins and, moreover, they decided to go on the greedy side, by minting too many sovs, too many sets etc etc etc. The market wasnt ready, the Platinum Jubilee was just too close. Not trying to get anyone by my side but if, as of today, i can still get the Memorial Proof sov at 680 gbp, the 5 pounds and the 5 coins set for a couple hundreds gbp less than in November...it doesnt look good to me. Memorial (i am not talking about bullion sovereigns, those are not relevant to me, they dont carry a significant numismatic value over spot) will perform well in 10-15-20 years? i dont know the future
  16. never said they are selling at 500 gbp below issue price..
  17. i may add that when we invest/collect in numismatic, and we pay hundreds (sometimes thousands) of gbp over spot, 3 things are crucial to protect the value of purchase; scarcity price grading Price is a cutter, but not THE cutter. Grading is important too, but it gets along with price. Scarcity is what we look for in numismatic. If a coin is always available in the market, then its magic is lost
  18. As the 2023 proof sovereign sets are approaching, i cant help but thinking how RM will decide to approach these release in terms of numbers. I m sorry to say that, and i know i ll sound unpopular, but the Memorial has been a disaster, a complete failure. Way too many coins floaded the market and, months and months after official release, i see around the very same coins offered (and sold) for the very same amount of money they were asked for on 15-11-22. Sovereigns (20,000 + minted!!!) fetch exactly 680 gbp (sometimes even less!!), the 5 pounds is on sale everywhere, the 5 coins set is being offered around for a couple hundred gbp LESS than original price.. I was one of those that went crazy, that morning, and queued to get his Sov. I dont regret it (even if, as been stated already several times, the too busy depiction of the reverse makes it not really enjoyable on the full sovereign), but as this hobby costs a lot of money, it is normal to work on both sides; buying something for the pleasure of... but also protecting our own money and make goof investment. People went crazy with Memorial frosting issues. As if that would change something in terms of value or desirability of those coins. There are just too many of them around. Simple as that. To cut it, what are your thoughts about 2023 proof coins incoming? Being a coronation year market will absorbe regardless to quantity? Or, if RM will decide to keep those massive numbers we will face a Memorial part II movie?
  19. what is true is that the Coronation sots has already nicely landed on 2 grands...
  20. i dont know,..... celebrating the coronation before the coronation.... celebrating a birthday before a birthday... i m not sure i can translate how we call that in italian...
  21. can someone smart explain me why on Ebay there's an auction for a Coronation sotd sovereign with a current winning offer of 1832 gbp (and still 6 days to go...) while other Coronation sotds with a buy now option at 1750 gbp are still there since tuesdays? what is the point of that?
  22. i always thought "SotDs" started on 2013. and that the 2012 Diamond Jubilee was not a Sotd but "just" a brilliant uncirculed
  23. i dont understand why people would bid and wait 7-8 days instead of buying it immediately for the same price... current auction is around 1750 gbp and for a little bit more there are several available..
  24. the Sotd will be a 1800-2000 gbp coin. If figures are accurate, out of 1260 minted, how many will be available on the market on regular basis? Mine not for sure. I bet there are out there hundreds of collectors that will just keep their Sotd and will never ever sell. And for the few ones available there will immediately be hundreds of collector willing to add it immediately to their collection No room for regular traders imho And i dont think the proof release will change that. Assuming the only difference being the plain edge, this Sotd will be always linked to the specific day of coronation, no matter how many generic 2023 proof will be around
