  1. my understanding is that when an auction is settled and organized, the main (only?) goal would be to sell as many lots as possible. Possibly 100%? if i was the owner i would consider a 58.5% sold rate as a total failure
  2. i checked this morning Coins of the realm auction 40 results; i unfortunately couldnt participate live due to work; and i am a bit puzzled.. 113 lots got unsold (out of 193); that 's 58,5% !! we've been commenting this auction house's performances recently on this forum and i am more and more surprised by their "commercial strategy"; i got from forum members that the reason is due to "too high starting prices". They are of course free to do whatever they consider appropriate, but i dont see the point in organizing an auction and selling only 40% of lots (where other auction houses like Coin Cabinet sell 100%) another interpretation would be a general "fatigue" of the sovereign related market but i dont see the same outcome elsewhere.. and in my opinion this is even more bizarre as they auction modern coins which carry a very low "premium" over the spot price
  3. thing is Memorial in PF70 are currently being sold around 680 gbp, which is (if i m not mistaken) the original RM price on November 2022. I read somewhere that out of 19,000 (total mintage) around 70% are likely to get the PF70 certification. Not exactly something that will become rare in the future i dont get the point in rushing for a slab for coins like these. where is the scarcity, rarity etc etc? they are all (almost) pf70!....
  4. it just shouldnt be like this. And we, as customers, should organize in a committee or something similar and be able to reach RM high level officers. It is not acceptable to pay such high premiums on proof coins (or Sotd or BU), to invest so much money on that and to get back suck poor products.
  5. i m sure it has been already explained...but i missed it... what's the difference (as per RM website) between available to order and in stock? both option give the chance to put the item in the basket and go to the check out.. thanks!
  6. gold spot as of 22-06-23 at 15.25 1507gbp/oz = 1750 euros Bull of Clarence 1z gold bullion; Royal Mint 1637 gbp (1900 euros) = +7.9% over spot Auragentum 1566 gbp (1818 euros) orderable from mid july (but can be bought already); = + 3,75% over spot; i just ask myself, WHY RM?
  7. i m easy to trigger... i know by heart every single year starting from... 1817 ehmm 1816!
  8. this morning at 09.00 i got with no queue whatsoever in the RM website. I got my proof and the 5 coins set (its my first time ever , and i m pretty excited as i dont collect anything but full sovs. Cant wait to see how a 5 and 2 sovs feel in hands.. i understand KCIII is far from being the most loved king but to me this coronation got a special meaning. It's (like many) the first i ever witnessed, and (like many) will never be able to own a 1887 or 1893 coronation set (1902 its tough, not only in price, but as most of the sets have been re-assembled and those matte coins have to be carefully checked one by one; 1911 and 1937 are still on my radar, but never had a concrete chance to offer/bid for them) . I really do wanted to have it, i really couldnt wait! I had that kind of chill that many had on the Jubilee or (i guess less) on the Memorial sets. I honestly have no interest in checking if it gets sold out soon or not, as a coronation set appreciates over time (years). I am a bit disappointed about the hight mintage of the full sovereign, but i really like a crowned portrait pity this coin-s arrive after such a busy and expensive period for us, collectors. I really hope, from November 2023, things will come back to normality, and i am also talking about prices (i dont see why we have to get a 50gbp increase every time); if we'll get back to the non crowned + st george coin i hope/expect price to get back as well to 550-600 gbp.
  9. i dont understand why 0% buyers premium should be a real advantage. When i participate to an auction i assume my competitors (other buyers) are informed and competent as i am. If i set a limit on a specific lot i always write down the maximum i am ready to spend on that (and that includes eventual buyer's surcharge). If the maximum is 1000 gbp and the buyers premium is 0% then my maximum bid will be 1000. That will decrease of course as the buyers surcharge increases. I really dont see why an auction with 0% added fees should be something WOOOOOT
  10. anyone knows why there were so many unsold lots at last CoTR auction? starting prices were just too high? i personally dont attend as i find irritating the way they list (randomly) their lots. It is something it really get on my nerves..
  11. i wrote 400 NGC and around 1000 in total..
  12. i know memorial sovereign-s have been discussed widely already, but i d like to deepen a particular aspect; having the 2 different sovereigns (memorial and the forthcoming coronation) a similar mintage (lets say 20.000) i wonder how PF70 can perform in the future as of today NGC claims more than 400 memorial in PF70. I guess PCGS numbers would be similar. Lets say 1000 pieces in total get PF70 (5% of total, but this is un underestimation as more and more will be sent to slab in the future). A lot always available in the market (next CC premium auction has five pieces in PF70). too many to make this a rarity, too many to see a serious increase in their value. I understand these will be a must for every collector (i myself own a memorial sov, and i ll get a coronation) but i dont really see a real bargain here on commercial side. RM just minted too many.
  13. so at the end of the day is it confirmed the 2023 proof sovereing-s will have the very same obverse and reverse of the Coronation Sotd?
  14. thanks dad! i just dont remember where my inheritance box is...😝
  15. i found today a 5500 gbp bargain, with a 20 second research. thats for those that insist in saying this emission was a "not to be missed one". From a numismatic point of view i do agree, from a commercial/investing point of view i m afraid it doesnt look good (as of today, of course. In 5-10 years who knows) 2022 5 Coin Memorial Proof Sovereign Set : Charles III (britanniacoincompany.com)
  16. i dont understand this rush in trying to get a pf70. honestly. Unless you are a trader what is the point in buying a coin and burying it in plastic, eventually even without enjoying it for a little bit? i read of TSF members that got the Sotd sovereign and sent it to slab directly through the dealer they bought it from. to me this is un-understandable
  17. thanks for the nice thought))) its the box LOL. the glue went on strike apparently..
  18. depends on the quality you are ready to get. 1500 each means a gvf 1817 and a au58 common date/bust William IV
  19. thanks to @PapaLazarou for the 2008!!! its really nice and it ll fit perfectly in my collection... and thanks to the RM for the Sotd. I like it very much and i have no complaints on the quality of the coin (CoA number 166 and QC n.20). What is really lame is the super low quality packaging that goes along with the Sotd. Half of it litterally broke in two when i first opened...
  20. sure, but also money (and the absence of) matters..
  21. i m not a £5 big boy more like a simple sovereign fellow i am considering the 5 coins set tho
  22. the democratic part of me says hurrayy!!!! with this choice/figures (i guess the RM went this way to maximize profit, giving a sh** to democracy) most of collectors will be able to secure a coronation piece. the collector part of me swears tho. 19500 memorial, 19800 coronation. Those sovereigns are not going to be "a rarity" that's for sure. What about obverse/reverse? exactly as per coronation Sotd?
  23. Covid definitely ruined the market, best was is and will always be checking coins in hand and buying off seller directly
  24. still, even a collector should behave with some limits. Collecting means studying too not just buying whatever at whatever price. If a (just inventing) AU58 1843 sov fetches (just inventing) 1000 gbp, what's the point in just bidding to get it even at 1500? or 1800? to me is finding a good au58 (maybe not in slab) and paying what is worth. And what the auction house asks as fee it really doesnt matter on final price i m ready to pay
