  1. The idea behind UBI is one that I don't have an issue with however its been proven many times not to work because there are factors that limit success outside of just giving people money. One of the biggest issues is the more money you have circulating in the public the more cost of goods will go up. Eventually you'll reach a point where it doesn't matter how much cash is being handed out because the cost of goods have gone up so much no one is any further ahead. I've seen this play out in areas where minimum wage was suddenly massively increased. In Canada a number of the provinces decided to massively incease minimum wage over a relatively short period of time. The end result seems to be much higher cost of goods - food and energy costs in particular have sky rocketed - but so have rents, house costs, etc, etc. It doesn't take much maths to work out those people who were earning the minimum wage really are no better off. Whats worse is that those who were on a higher wage but didn't get any bump up now also have to pay more for everything so are effectively worse off. I have friends and family there who were living comfortably in 2008 but struggle these days. So yes while I love the the idea of things like UBI I really wish people would realise there are complications beyond just the happy, smiley good intentions. EDIT: And to actually answer the original question that was posed... no I don't think there will be a rush into PM's because unlike a one off payment a regular payment and that regular extra boost of cash being fed into the economy will cause inflation which is likely where most of the money will go.
  2. With the amount of returns they've likely had with this single issue I am sure they wish they had checked first!
  3. Unfortunately I've not seen the ones that are available. I don't know how anyone would have it given it hasn't been released yet as a 2oz silver bullion (as far as I know) though if some have gotten out they would be able to sell for a premium to the people who have to be first to have them. You won't see a rerun of any of the silver proofs. Its possible they might produce those coins in different sizes or in different metals as they've done that sort of thing before but they won't do a second run of 1oz silver proofs or any of the others that have already been released. If you want a 1oz silver proof I would recommend biding your time and waiting until some come up at a price you are willing to pay. I can't personally see any reason why they would maintain the current prices. Prices tend to normalise 1 - 3 months after release from what I've seen of other releases. I can't speak to the larger coins... 5oz, 10oz, etc. You'll see some of those change hands now from those who bought just to flip but most I suspect will be looking to grade and maximise their return. Might be a few months before you get an idea whether those will hold their current prices, fall or rise in value.
  4. I kind of hinted at it in my post above but I believe the hype for this particular release is driven by the fact no one knew - and seemingly there are only a handful that do still know - that a 2oz bullion silver is coming. There are A LOT of people who collected the 2oz bullion set. With no initial word that there would be a 2oz silver bullion completer I can understand a certain percentage of those people trying to get ahold of the 1oz proof. Once the bullion version is released though I would be very surprised if the 1oz proof trades for over RRP.
  5. It definitely was not. Certainly not in the run up to release or until well after the coins had sold out. I kept trying to get on that morning to see what others opinions on this release were but kept getting the 500 error. Its a shame the original thread for it doesn't give the time posts were made as I'd expect you'd find a big gap in there but you can look at that thread and note unlike others where people talk about their place in the queue and what coin they got it goes straight to sold out. The forum was down when the release happened.
  6. This release taught me that there is a lot of value in being active in more than just one community. The morning of this release the silver forum was down but the Facebook groups were going strong giving members a heads up and allowing those of us not in the know to get in there in time. The Royal Mint email was a joke arriving well after all the coins had sold out so you can't rely on that. With regards to the silver 1oz proof - I really think its worth keeping in mind that most people who collected this series (based purely on what I've seen people collecting over the years) collected the 2oz bullion silver coins. This coin will be released as a 2oz bullion allowing everyone who collected them in that format to complete their sets. There is no point scrambling for an overpriced 1oz proof when you've collected the bullion set knowing the bullion version will be out soon.
  7. Exchange. Join the club of those of us who have sent ours back. Quite a few of us so far!
  8. I have something of a love/hate relationship with sovs. I love em because bullion sovs make for such an easy entry point into owning physical gold. They are easy to buy, generally won't pay a high premium and when the time comes just as easy to sell. Their size also helps with regards to the barrier to entry and they (again thinking bullion here) generally don't have the premium you'd expect to pay for a 1/4oz bullion coin. The bit I don't like about them... the overwhelming amount you need to learn in order to effectively buy some of the varieties. I'm a big proponent for knowing what you are buying - something I feel too few do much to their detriment. This has prevented me from seriously getting into sovs because as someone newish to them the varieties and information surrounding them feels overwhelming and too much of a time sink to get into. Apart from my bullion sovs bought just for the gold content I have focused on Canada sovs and feel comfortable with that small sliver of sov collecting mostly because it is so small covering only a few years. Between work and other hobbies I don't imagine I'll ever have the time to get into them much beyond this.
