  1. Thanks. It’s only worth spot to me. Best of luck with the sale.
  2. Hi - are the marks on the capsule or the coin? Thanks
  3. Quite. Whilst I have not had a problem with RMSD - which for me has been faultless, I have had problems with other premium services - not PM related. Nasty and unethical chicanery by large organisations companies is not that frequent but my experience is to follow regulatory processes (if they exist for service that is at fault). Use ombudsman - with lots of evidence. You will win. If not, and depending on the size of the problem: - Threaten lawyers - If no response, use lawyers. Ideally get a letter delivered at 3.30pm on a Friday with a strong threat of legal action to ruin someone’s weekend. Making sure you target someone with financial skin in the game with a company you have a problem with. Post the Horizon scandal, people will be a little more “focussed” on behaving with integrity.
  4. The Safe Bit of me says: Brits from QEII era or Gillicks. Both are spot friendly and liquid. If I wanted to take a punt, one or two significantly rare Sovs - betting that they will be more desirable over a period of time.
  5. I’m afraid this won’t fly - ever.
  6. I often wonder how this sort of collection is put together……
  7. Interesting - I have seen one before but was too pricey for what I think it might be worth.
  8. He hasn’t replied to me so I have given him a nudge
  9. The collection doesn’t contain a Kew 50p but no harm asking!
  10. He has a large collection of “Change Checker” 50p’s for sale for £750. I am going to start asking him some questions…Will post replies if he “bites”
  11. This sort of scumbag (listing above), typifies the sort of BINlord that lives on the BINlord thread. Look at his other listings - loads of fantasy coins / counterfeits bought from China and sold between other genuine coins. Judging by his feedback, I recon he would be easily wound up by a few well aimed emails….
  12. Yes agreed. Not a completely obvious counterfeit and I fear that the buyer was probably older and not savvy to the scumbags on eBay.
  13. Appreciate everyone has different opinions but I do find my very high resolution Mac and Carson camera very good for this, along with a loupe.
  14. As per a post on a similar thread, I really do think that a detailed visual inspection is hugely valuable. Comparing against a reference coin.
  15. I did see one for sale at Sovr.co.uk - but can’t remember the price other than expensive. It was MS60 or 61 from memory.

    Opinion on Grading

Depend on why you are thinking of grading them. - To keep yourself? Why not, personally not for me but appreciate some folk like that - To sell and make a profit? Not sure it would be worth it if you are selling on eBay or auction with fees. Demand here for decent quality Shields remains healthy Best Dicker
  17. Premiums for Sovs and Brits is roughly similar. A mix of the two would make sense. Sovs are easier to liquidate but Brits can be a little harder but still sell well. Horses for courses!
  18. Just a couple of notes. - They do go for a considerable premium (Silver more than gold) - I have seen one example for sale on eBay that I believe was a counterfeit - so just be careful
  19. I do wonder if we will see a rehash of the Queen Victoria coronation medal design from 1838. The one with females representing England, Scotland and Wales offering up the crown. It is reminiscent of the 3 Graces which might appeal to the marketing geniuses at the RM

    Gold Vs Pension

So this is a question that really needs actuarial analysis! Its a big and complex question that depends on your tax status, earnings and appetite for risk. A “look back” over 20 years is possible with time and analytics skills but isn’t a guide to the future. If you want gold in your pension then perhaps one of the gold funds.
  21. It’s an interesting one and there is definitely no right or wrong. Personally I have chosen to have very little gold in proof or proof sets - various reasons for this. Sovs and Brits all the way. If I could buy silver with no VAT, I would be looking to shift some Gd to silver after the next down leg of Silver price. Personally I think it will go down a bit before it shifts significantly higher.
  22. Apart from offers of Pot Noodles, complex questions on postage and insurance wind people up. Especially when you say you offer to do an “in person collection with a couple of members of my firm”
  23. I messaged and offered a fiver and a PotNoodle “Bombay Bad Boy” No reply.
  24. I don’t own a Sigma - but it would be the very last test I did if I bothered. Really accurate scales and a micrometer are good but honestly - a detailed visual inspection - comparing against a reference coin is in my opinion the most important test.
