    Well, got it.
Looking good so far. It weighs up OK on my basic balance, I'll take it to work next time I'm in and check it on my analytical balance (0.0001g accuracy and regularly calibrated and certified). Haven't had it under the loupe yet but I'll take a high res picture to look at later.
Just going to see my jeweller friend who'll measure it up accurately for me, I don't have a good caliper set.
It's in pretty good condition as are most of these, as it was rare for these coins to be used in circulation.
    So....... :) :)

    A nightmare .
Full sovereigns will go into a A22 Direct Fit or T22 Ringed.  A Rings only go to 19mm.
A Half Sovereign will go into a A19 Ringed.  T Rings start at 20mm.
A Half Sovereign will not fit a A19 Direct Fit because as the coin is ever so slightly too big.  It will fit a A21 Direct Fit but the coin is too small so there is a quite a bit of rattle.  They don't make a A20 Direct Fit.

You can have them in Direct Fit A if you don't mind rattling.
You can have them in Rings but they will be of different capsule sizes.

    Edited with size corrections.

Picked up some coins from a pick and mix tray in Hatton garden

    1992 10 yuan snow leopard
    1993 5 yuan yin/yang
    1911 Hong Kong trade dollar
    1994 kangaroo
    Maple and ase

Tip of the day: if you look at the yin/yang on the floormat of the 5yuan, the yin section is mirrored. If you ever see one where both yin and yang are frosted - pick it up as they go for many hundreds of pounds.

Today I also received a a roll /tube of First Majestic Mayan rounds, and strangely it is also my first full roll of anything. I won't bother sticking up a pic as MH has already beat me to it.

I have a little confession though............I did have a little fondle of them before I put them back in the tube, and I wasn't wearing gloves,

A little off-piste this one. Not strictly PM (silvered bronze) but I liked it.
Wish it was silver at over 20oz.

It was a general ebay buy it now where the seller had suggested a possible 3 over 2.
I cannot get a more productive photo as it really needs a dslr with macro. The ones posted are photographs via a cheap 40x magnifier. A normal image enlarged just pixelates.
The Marsh 2002 book greyscan as you can see shows two 'pointed' edges around the ass of the 3 which you can also see on this one I have. In some ways it also looks a little like a double stamp as you can see an additional line round the bottom end of the 3. I am not quite sure how Marsh comes to the conclusion his photo plate shows a 2 because strictly it looks nothing like. In conclusion then, it looks like it has something under the 3 due to those pointed edges. The 4 also looks odd.
By the way just to be clear - the top right photo from yesterday is a different (normal) coin just used as a comparison sample.

    1843 sovereign with date error.
Attached are photos of the full coin with the error. A photo of a normal 1843 dated coin. A photo of the date error stamp which if you have a Marsh 2002 book is shown on page 52 as having a couple of similar charicteristics. In Marsh the error illustrated is a 3 over 2.
The date on the coin its very difficult to photograph and make out

Good plan just to buy them all, you'll easily find someone here to take any duplicates or others you don't want off your hands.

Just received my first China Medal.  I've been eyeing them up for almost a year but they're quite expensive and even more so once VAT is factored in.  The mintages are relatively low with some being in the low hundreds but then, the market for them is very small.  As an investment they're a big gamble but I love the designs on some of them and a some number of months ago I decided that price shouldn't always be a issue.  If I like it and can afford it, then I should just pick it up.  A have a couple more on the way and a couple more to still buy.

This is 60g, 40mm and fairly high relief.

So the very same institution that has been manipulating down the value of silver on behalf of the Fed has been taking advantage of artificially low prices and have bought 8 million ounces just in the last week!

Interesting times ahead in the next 6 months....
