  1. Assuming the inheritance was kosher ie the probate was carried through correctly and any inheritance tax paid, surely the house, on transfer, was tax free? The question is what value is attached to the house when she inherited it? I would have thought this would have been it's value at that time and thus any capital value increase between then and now would be taxable, not it's full value. This seems fair to me but that doesn't necessarily mean it's true. If she lived in the house since the inheritance and sold it now there wouldn't be any capital gains to pay. Alternatively if the house had been sold as part of probate and the proceeds willed to your M-I-L, she wouldn't have had to pay any tax.
  2. Yes another metal that people were assuming would do well as it was traditionally a lot higher vs gold and therefore would be so again 🫢
  3. You may live to regret asking your question!😄
  4. What makes you think there is any gold in this piece, any hallmarks? looking at the size and thickness of the "coins" I doubt they will be more than 9 ct if gold, probably less.
  5. mmm that sounds like a dodgy friend😎
  6. I went a couple of times before the covid debacle. It was OK but you need to get there early as most of the dealers can't wait to get off as soon as they can in the afternoon.
  7. Just as NGC often under grade shields, PCGS often overgrade, I have seen it many many times. The weak strike on the lions is real, I am not so convinced by the head, there looks like some mechanical damage to my eyes. Even if it is, the lustre and eye appeal on both sides is poor and negates the high grade imho
  8. He was a rising star then as well. Sigh......he was such a disappointment😄
  9. Right, peak attained, going back down now - entertainment over for the day.
  10. You really need both. Some of the older edition books will be a little out of date but there are some gems of knowledge in them. There have been a number of threads on this forum over the years with some good recommendations so a quick forum search should find you some details to go at.
  11. Probably true but it will go back down at some point soon. A bit of volatility is exciting for the guys here and this gives an opportunity for some profit taking if you have the nerve to do it🤔
  12. Feels like watching paint dry at times😄
  13. I think I would have done, especially when he said it was only worth a couple of quid. These people need embarrassing!
  14. I would agree with all those gradings , which is a miracle for me and NGC, except the 1872 which I think is a tad overgraded at 64, better at 63
  15. Thanks. Interesting, never seen them presented like this before.
  16. What are the sealed ones in and why? They are proof?
