V0liminal reacted to ChrisSilver in ⚠️ Please be careful when trading - some basic checks you should do
Today we took a precautionary measure and banned an account that we believed could pose a risk to members. However, this does not mean that we will spot any suspicious accounts in the future. So please be careful when trading.
Members are reminded of their responsibility to do their own due diligence and the risk of trading. Please check section 7.4. Risk of trading of the forum’s rules.

You may wish to take note of the following when doing your due diligence and trading:
    - How long has the member been active on the forum for? There is likely less risk when trading with long standing members who have been on the forum for many years. (Anything less than 3+ years they are still relatively new)
    - How much trading feedback do they have, and is the trading feedback selling feedback? How long have they been selling on the forum for?
    - Their community reputation, is it high, have they been engaging in a lot of topics with a lot of posts?
    - The optional attached piece of paper with their forum username on, does it look authentic, please zoom in. For sellers it is also best to include 'The Silver Forum' on the piece of paper, so that it is an original written note for a sale on TSF and therefore not the same photos used from elsewhere on the internet. Although please bare in mind that it is also relatively easy to photoshop or forge onto a photo.
    - Do they have Premium Membership? If a member has Premium Membership it means that the forum should have the name and and address of the member*, or at least of the card owner. This gives us vital information to pass onto the police should it be a scam member and we are requested to pass on information. *Note that for some Premium Members TSF may not hold an address of, such an example may include but may not be limited to a situation where: a gift membership was purchased for a member and they have not reached the renewal date or added an address to their account. For every member who has purchased Premium Membership themselves with a card or renewed; we should hold an address of the member, or at least of the card owner.

    - Be wary of someone asking you to send the payment to a 3rd party. Having several successful deals with a member who then subsequently asks you to send money elsewhere to a different bank account (such as a bank account of a friend) this time should be seen as a red flag. If a member is selling on behalf of a 3rd party make sure they have the items in hand, and you are sending to the bank account of the member who listed these items for sale on TSF.

    - Be extra careful when dealing in large amounts of money, several previous successful trades is no indication that a future deal with the same member will be 100% without problems.
    - If anything does not feel right, or there is anything that causes doubt, do not go through with a trade.

Some members exclusively only buy from and sell to, long standing Premium Members.

We also suggest for members to use tracked shipping, or ideally a form of insured shipping, this is useful for members of both sides of the trade.
Also, please be polite to new members listing items for sale. Everyone was a new member at one stage, and new members may need some time to build up a trading history on the forum. Note that statistically a new member listing an item for sale is more likely a genuine member than not. But please be careful when trading and report any suspicious activity immediately by using the report feature.

Disclaimer: The suggestions if implemented do not change the Forum's Term’s & Conditions in regards to member's risk of trading. Please check section 7.4. Risk of trading of the forum’s rules.

Hi, I found the forum via @BackyardBullion’s YouTube channel. I’m not a serious stacker or collector. Just like the idea of having some of my dosh in gold and silver.

    Hi All,
I'm brand new to the world of precious metals having purchased my first coin just the other day: A 1oz Australian silver Wombat. It's a brave new world for me and I look forward to learning more  and found TSF via Backyard Bullion's YouTube channel.

Thanks, everyone. I agree. I think secrecy is key, and making it difficult to find or move is the way for now for me. I do like the idea of storage boxes at a bank. I didn't know about this, and it could be great to use multiple locations to minimise risk. @James32 It seems not to have all my eggs in one basket, so to speak is the best thing when I have a high value lot. I do see myself getting gold because 1 small coin can hold the same value as much larger silver lots.

I'm new here and have now got a few silver coins that I keep in a small safe, but it has me thinking.
If I put a little bit of savings into coins each month, over a period of time I will have a lot to be holding in one place.
What options are out there and is there anything newbies like me could benefit from knowing about keeping a growing quantity of coins?
Sorry if this is asked a lot it is something that occurred to me as I was buying more.

    Hello everyone,

Tony here. I’ve been stacking for long but just joined the forum.
Special thanks to the founders and moderators for a job well done. Also to the members for their contributions, threads and posts that I’m already learning from .
This is a great platform to bring stackers and collectors together, this is family and I’m glad to be here.
    Thank You All.

Just want to say hi to everyone. I've been stacking gold and silver for about 3 years now but am now just starting to flirt with silver coin collecting. At the moment I'm just tippy toeing into well know coins but am looking for graded slabbed versions in order to justify the premiums.
    Thanks all.

That's a **** move from a buyer, I had this happen to me luckily with a low value mobile phone. Posting with traceability for eBay support is a must, really. I hope this gets resolved quickly for you, and the buyer gets some comeback against their account.

@James32 is right, no hassle keeping silver safely at home, but once into gold, best get it somewhere a little safer… that’s what I currently do.🤔

The good thing about coin collecting is that it's boring and no body is interested, try and keep it that way. Tell no one, it's even better if you collect all sorts of sh*t. That way when another parcel turns up they just think "there's big Marc, buying cr*p again". Currently I am buying up old comedy DVD's before the woke brigade ban them all. Ten of them turn up with a parcel of silver amongst them, no one gives a dam.

Yeah all roads lead to gold 😆 you could keep the silver at home safely and deposit gold at the bank, spread the risk if you will.

I'm not sure a safety deposit is ideal for silver.
Silver takes up a lot of space and you have to factor in 'how much silver can I get in my box' compared to the cost of SD box rental.
I think the safe/clever concealment ideas are better. And keep mum!
(but that's just me 😎. Welcome.)

Welcome to the forum! I hope you get what you're hoping for out of the forum.

As King @James32 states, the best is to only have really trusted people know you have PMs if you choose to keep them at home.
I've seen others on this forum talk about storing coins in capsules and then in lengths of PVC pipe as it'll look inconspicuous as mentioned above.

But a local Safety Deposit Box is probably the safer option. Lots of banks do this and you don't need to be a banking client to open one with them.
You'll see that those that trade a lot on here will sell coins or offer them up for sale with no pictures unless there are requests for them as they'll then need to retrieve them from storage.
  25. Super Thanks
V0liminal reacted to James32 in How to hold and store coins?
    Two options really.
    1) get a bigger/better safe and bolt it to a wall/floor in a very inconspicuous place. Imperative that only you and a trusted love one knows it's location ( loose lips sink ship's)
    2) safety deposit box at a nearby location, recommended if your planning to start collecting gold ( and you will start eventually 🤣 it's inevitable)
This new venture is exciting, but the best piece of security will always be keeping your mouth zipped shut, it's nobody's business what your collecting and best to keep it that way.
    Ps, welcome aboard!
