  1. Hi does anyone know why the 4 is so different from the other numbers? and is it the angled 4 variety? thanks
  2. Thanks for replying, i was wondering why the 4 was so much thinner than the other numbers
  3. Hi Everyone I am trying to work out if this is the angled 4 variety, please comment, thanks
  4. Orpster many thanks for your replies and information, appreciated as i wasn't sure 👍
  5. Thanks Orpster, is it known how many shields were minted? why would Marsh have it as scarce?
  6. But doesn't that also include St George reverse? how many shields were minted?
  7. The reason i asked is that in Marsh its states scarce but when i searched online some say its rare, thanks
  8. Morning all, can anyone tell me if they think the 1887 S Victoria shield is rare and what condition is worth getting it graded or a sale price, as I have one in my stack, many thanks Here is the shield side
  9. Booky586 Thanks very much for having a look and sending me, i am finding this all very interesting and what a great forum this is!
  10. Hi Dave Thanks for your reply, i only have the Gold Sovereign Series book at present, please suggest some if they have more info on my particular variety Does it make a massive difference to have the variety printed on the slab? It is my first and so far only graded coin as to my knowledge it is my rarest, i have some other rare coins but all R's not R3's Any advice would be much appreciated
  11. Hi Dicker Many thanks for your reply, I tried to find out how many of this variety would have been produced seeing as though they had to strike the F over the E, why wouldn't they have melted them down and re-make them? or perhaps there were only very few so they re-struck them. I was wondering if they ever kept a record of quantities or if it will forever be a mystery? i can't even find out how many have been found since the first one came to light in 2007 Spinks auction. Any info would be much appreciated
  12. No they didn't, i subsequently found out that you have to pay them for them to do it, which i wasn't aware of at the time
  13. Thanks Sovhead for your reply, i cant find much info about them other than what is in the Marsh book or on Google, which is not a lot
  14. Absolutely it is worth checking as i recently found an 1853 F over E in DEF which made a regular bullion sovereign an R3 extremely rare coin, happy hunting it's a great feeling if you find one that you didn't know you had.
  15. Hi All, I recently discovered an 1853 variety in my collection, it is the 1853 F over E reads DEE variety, I had it graded by NGC as AU55. can anyone tell me some information about how many are known to exist or a potential value? any replies will be much appreciated, thanks.
