For what it's worth, my view is that long-term it is best to minimise the amount of stack invested in premiums, because premiums won't perform as well as prices go up.
E.g., buy 100 ounces of Brits (here or on the Bay with no VAT) at £23 + £4 premium - you have £2300 invested in spot silver and £400 invested in premiums
At spot £100, you have £10,000 invested in spot silver (return of 435%) ... to achieve the same return on premiums you would need the £400 to go up to £1740 - i.e., for premiums to be £17.40 per coin ...or more accurately  someone will bid you £117.40 for the coin. 
I just don't see it...not even close.
In contrast, buy 200 ounces of pre1947 (50% silver coins) at 97% of spot (someone is offering here now) = 100 ounces of silver. You have £2300 invested in spot silver and  -£69 invested in premiums.
At spot £100, you again have £10,000 invested in spot silver. To achieve the same return, you need the premium to be more than -£300  or £3/oz of silver or £1.50/oz of pre1947.   I absolutely see that, even allowing for some inflation, because the cost of refining the metal is not likely to go up 4 times ...it is more fixed/gradually rising in £ terms.  (And don't forget that pre1947 are chattels for CGT purposes so practically tax-free)
Of my own silver portfolio, I have a princely £52 invested in positive premiums and several thousands in negative premiums (i.e., discounts) ...money is definitely where my mouth is

I'd say birthdays too. Some think they make great presents for people born in those years. 

Apart from having the right colour, it is the 1st with QEII effigy.  A decent amount were minted thus easy to find in excellent condition. Still available at only a few £'s over modern sovereign.  Video show them being minted. 
This is also interesting video done by Hattons of London. It is in 4 short parts and have started at 3.
