  1. One doesn't need post when they receive it in change after spending a white fiver. 😁
  2. If you want a book full of info pick up a Coincraft 2000 catalogue - Coins of England (ignore the prices as they're well out of date) but the catalogue is a wealth of information. It's the perfect blend of accessible information, not too academic but way more info than say a Spink catalogue. Spink is better for prices.
  3. Mine was £58... 😲 Lawrence Chard's was £1 😁
  4. If it carries on like this then even those people who have bought nifty presentation boxes containing a few gold coins from various mail order firms will be seeing their money back. 😁
  5. Was I the only one who had to look up how much they weigh in kg? 😁 If it's not measured in stone, then I have no clue.
  6. Hmm I've always fancied Switzerland or Norway, not too hot and not in the EU.
  7. Or your beans are over valued, sorry to break it to you. 😁
  8. Will Biden know he's there? The USA is supposedly the leader of the free world and their best two candidates are a nutter and a man whose lost his marbles; and in all honesty I'm not sure which is which. It's really quite sobering. 😁
  9. Wasn't that the end of the world number? 😉
  10. Have you been watching Airplane!? 😁
  11. Careful, early milled is definitely a rabbit hole you could get lost down... I fell down some time since and ended up with this lot:
  12. My mercury has melted already, what do I win? 😁
  13. Well first and foremost, your sixpence is genuine, no worries there. From 1816 the standard measurements are diameter of 19.41mm and 2.83g - the varied weights and thicknesses at numista will be down to wear. Very worn sixpences can be half as thick etc. The 1674-1787 era sixpences are a little more varied. Coins were struck with weight being the primary concern. The flans can vary in diameter and thickness quite a bit. This in part was due to the technology of the time, cutting blanks so they weighed correct rather than machine cut precision etc. Things just weren't standardised as they became with the commencement of steam driven presses used by Boulton and Watt from 1797 with the cartwheel copper coinage. I've got a pile of these sixpences and when stacked up they're all different diameters, the thicknesses vary as well but these are less noticeable. Sixpences were struck to be approx 3g, obviously with wear it drops, so 2.97g is perfectly respectable.
  14. This is true. Quite fitting too as coincidentally Birmingham (or at least the Black Country) did actually make anchors too, most famously the anchor for the Titanic.
  15. I don't really buy 'grades' any more as such. I don't even bother grading the coins I buy. I tend to just buy on eye appeal now. I've had VF coins that looked better than EF coins. I don't buy mint state coins any more, except for Standing Liberty Quarters because I like the design. Give me a honest coin between VF and AU any day.
  16. It seems there's a crack running down her right wrist, looking at her face it's probably the only crack she's got. 😁
  17. I dunno, the incuse Indians are superb. I remember seeing photos of them and thinking "not my cup of tea", then I saw one in the flesh and wow was I wrong!
  18. I've always preferred a Melbourne sovereign, no idea why.
  19. The P definitely looks weird to me.
  20. Ah, Andrew Ridgeley. 😁 I always forget about George Michael.
