  1. No capsules back then, and they have been lightly wiped over the years.
  2. As @Silverlocks states above all 1952 struck sovereigns were struck with 1925 Geo V dies, it did not make collectors very happy at the time because before that they were actually scarce.
  3. Both of them 😀 Seriously I am hoping for 64-65's across the set but think my 1-sov may only be a 63?
  4. I have seen a lot of 1925 London's sold this year, some auctions listing a dozen in one go.
  5. Yes, I keep trying to improve each coin, so although its sort of for sale, I don't really want to sell it.
  6. This is part of a set I have been building for a few years, its a pet project but it is available : https://www.allgoldcoins.co.uk/products/1937-george-v-gold-proof-4-coin-coronation-specimen-set
  7. I think maybe somewhere in between, I will melt it down if it comes back AU-58 🤣
  8. Today I received this 1937 5 Sovereign, I am sending for grading, how do you think it will grade?
  9. Your coin has no bulge on the letter 'O' others have now highlighted this.
  10. Not sure if anyone has put one of these up yet :
  11. I cannot see anything going on with the second coin, the first image is a O over C, as is the coin on ebay. A tip for anyone looking for over dates or legends, they are often easier to see in negative :
  12. I was going to make another thread but saw this one on the subject of VAT being charged on Gold Investment Coins. I think this thread refers to investment coins coming into the UK rather than going out? My experience is with coins going to the EU since BREXIT. I have had and continue to get lots of grief with VAT being wrongly charged on coins which are exempt under UK and EU law. How widespread is this problem? Have you had problems either sending to the EU or receiving coins within the EU with charges being levied. I have carried out some investigations, but before I give my pennies worth, I would be interested in others experiences.
  13. Just PM me and I will always see what can be done for TSF members. A lot depends on payment methods, bank transfers cost nothing so gives the best prices, once you start using credit cards or worse still PayPal you start looking at fees.
  14. 15. I have just put 2024 sovereigns on the Buy / Sell thread, if you PM me, we will beat / match any available price for all TSF members.
  16. Don't give them ideas, I mean they have already got Christmas Tree Ingots 😆
  17. We will have them available to buy without the need to queue on the day of the launch, I can only say it is very close, and I think people will be pleased with the mintages. PM me if you want me to guarantee you a chance to order, unlike the mint only those who have pre-registered will get the link to buy, and we will make sure there is enough to satisfy that list. I wish I could give you more information, but due to the embargo I am simply not allowed.
  18. In a word No, I am not aware of any 1864 sovereign which appears without a die number. That does not mean there isn't one, only that my 20yrs of sovereign research has yet to see one.
  19. Maybe, Maybe Not nearly a 100 years different, the 1925 London sovereign dies were used again in the latter years of George VI. The 1925 London was quite a scarce year until then.
  20. I have to say the idea that you have to pay the mint in excess of £1000 more than the coins cost originally) to get a box and properly struck coins is quite staggering to me. Its obviously a great business model for them?
  21. Totally sold at the Royal Mint and only available at huge premiums on the internet. 2023 King Charles III Coronation 1oz (one) 999.9 Gold Proof Coin Available for sale at just £2995.00 (New not pre-owned) Please PM us if you are interest. Regards Allgold Coins
  22. Thank you for your comments, I am more than happy to assist if I can when it comes to full sovereigns, I can't do the same for half sovereigns as I have never had enough of them.
  23. I keep photos of coins we have had, to date @50 1864's no Die 98's found, but I can confirm, 96, 100, 102 👍
  24. This is an interesting thread as a dealer I have considered the merits of slabbing circulation sovereigns. I have watched many sell for considerable premiums that seem incorrectly graded. MS - should mean Mint State, that is a coin that has no wear, with its exact rating 60-70 being determined by the amount of abrasions or marks, edge dings, but basically as struck as far as wear is concerned. AU - About Uncirculated, a small amount of wear to the highest points of the design, a rating of 50-58 determines how many of the high points show some degree of wear plus the abrasions and marks exhibited. XF - Is where we start to see general clear wear to the coin and obvious signs that it has been in circulation for a period of time. VF - Is a coin that has obvious wear from significant circulation, but the design itself is basically intact and quite discernible. Below this grade you start to lose elements of the design itself. This image is from a 1844 sovereign currently within a live auction, graded as MS-63, its currently bid is $3300 +20% =$3900 :
  25. This is correct, due to what I understand to be pressure within the industry, mintage of 5 BU was reduced from 650 - 450 and the Piedfort from 1250 - 950.
