  1. Spare a thought for me, I have just sold 3 of these at RRP, I am a nice by very poor dealer 😢
  2. I think what makes this coin special is its history for me, Pistrucci didn't only engrave the 1818 crown, he got so fed up with the harderning department breaking his dies (104 to be precise), he actually ended up hardening them himself in the furnace : "I would not have presumed to undertake this duty if there had been a practical man at his post, and not a gentleman who was afraid of dirtying his hands with coals, or of exposing himself for a few hours to the glowing heat of a furnace." Benedetto Pistrucci
  3. I wonder what people think these coins will sell for once the fuss dies down? 2oz silver ? 5oz silver ? 10 oz silver ? 2 oz gold ? I be honest and say after watching this series from the start, I don't have a clue 😀
  4. I was only allowed to buy one of each, but that was by phone and not online.
  5. Oh yes there are bigger ones, can I use your funds to buy them 😀
  6. The version I would personally like is the 5 / 10oz silver, there has never been a large G/D BP before, this will the only one over crown size.
  7. That links in nicely with another thread the great engravers, GEO III and early GEO IV sovereigns were both the work of Benedetto Pistrucci, he did the original engraving, cut and prepaired the dies himself, he was a perfectionist. The GEO IV laureate head series 1821-1825 contains no notable error sovereigns.
  8. This looks to be F over repositioned F in DEF, typical of the type of workmanship at the Mint during the mid 19th century. Not sure about the D FID here but again appears to be just sloppy workmanship.
  9. This is a Large 'O' type sovereign, the '6' is misaligned which common on a lot of 1860 sovereigns.
  10. Gold will be over subscribed and will be on ebay at a premium within minutes I reckon. Silver will also do well.
  11. The main ones people will be interested in will be the 2oz gold and silver versions, but there will also be some 5oz versions available. Prices I can't give except for the fact we will be no more expensive than the RRP and cheaper if possible.
  12. THE GREAT ENGRAVERS - BENEDETTO PISTRUCCI'S ICONIC ST GEORGE AND THE DRAGON - REGISTER YOUR INTEREST NOW - We will only receive a small allocation of Silver / Gold versions, this issue is already highly sought after and we are inviting those interested in the new issue to register their interest with us. We will do our best to offer all those who pre-register the coin of their choice. Please note that the 2oz gold version is likely to be only 1 per customer, and we operate a first come first served basis. Any remaining coins will go up for general sale on the day of launch. PM us if you want to be added to the list.
  13. I have to agree, their grading of shields is awful, they tend to be more concerned with fields than the actual detail. I have seen some graded as MS63 with no lions faces left!
  14. Type IB, all London all have die numbers, 1863-1874 No Shields were produced after 1874 in London, no production of sovereigns at all in London for 1875 due to low demand, production resumed 1876 in London with G&D type only.
  15. You have to remember that die axis is not something that many people even collectors check, these may or may not be more common than originally thought?
