My personal advice is never to have a safe delivered to the location you are going to be using it…..for the obvious reason that someone then knows you are storing something valuable.

I don’t keep PM’s at home I use SD boxes. It’s all very well having a safe but if a couple of fellas turn up with saw offs - you will open it up.

Just my thoughts

Some people have dummy safes, fill it with a bit of cash, maybe a few ounces of silver, stuff you can afford to lose. Then have another safe well hidden with the good stuff in. Then if you're forced to open a safe, you can just open the rubbish one and let them think they have scored.

My party trick as a teenager was to carry a friend on my back whilst riding a bike stood up

Trick! We all did that, you had to stand up whilst riding in order to see over your other friend on the handlebars, and/or for yet another mate who was sitting on the saddle

You're misunderstanding. I'm talking about giving my biggest mate a piggyback while standing up riding a BMX!!

My safe advice is that you shouldn't post a picture or use a avatar of your/other halfs boat (as in cockney face). Easy enough to get the IP address of other posters and cross reference that with other sites to build up a profile. Or even find matching boats on FB/wherever - and where the kids might be shouting about their holiday in Spain in early July/whatever. Trade with another and they have your name/address/bank account details etc. "Not at home, but nearby" - is likely "around at mums". "Hidden" - as in one of all the usual places that a high value burglar will be aware of.

The safe with gold is ... you don't own any gold. When so then some have even used gold bars as internal doorstops quite safely.

I wouldn't own any other type of dog. I don't have a dog now, but grew up with German Shepherds, like you say, intelligent and loyal. And pretty tasty when they need to be.

Many years ago my mum was walking our dog, who was a fair sized unit, in a local park. This was back in the day when you let your dog off the lead, because it was trained properly. Anyway some c@nt tried to grab my mum, thinking she was alone in the park. The dog spied this pretty sharpish and set about mauling the c@nt.

My mum got home and phoned the police (pre mobile times!). C@nt was duly arrested 2 hours later in A&E having his arm sewn back together!

Same dog also did similar after a nutter tried to kick our front door in. My mum heard the commotion and let the dog out the back door. Problem solved.

I'd take a German Shepherd over any alarm or safe.
