Hatton Garden Metals tried to rip me off!!!!

I sent some jewellery to HGM for sale having established from their website that they pay %10 below spot for jewellery.

I received a quote from them today which worked out at 15% below spot.

I could have got 15% below from the jewellery shop around the corner from me.

When I phoned to query this the lady said that they base the price on the London fix NOT spot price, this would have made a difference of  a few pounds at most.

Its going to cost me about £20 for sending and returning of my jewellery.

For a company that has built a high reputation this is very poor.

Sorry to hear this, I have only ever sold coins to them, they have always guaranteed the price on the day they quote, regardless of spot price movement.

They always paid what they promised and I’ve had good service, I guess it must be different for scrap gold and jewellery because it has to be appraised on arrival, I always sell jewellery and scrap to a local shop who always beat any price quoted online.

It is unfortunate but you have been member for quite a few years. That £20 could be a blessing in disguise.

Why not list it here on the forum?

Depending how good or bad, you would at worse got 2% under spot.

I am a buyer of jewellery, PM me with what you have and maybe a deal can be done on some items.

Hi @goldhunter

Sorry to hear that - no companies want this sort of experience or reviews, and no customers likewise.

HGM are site sponsors - this is useful feedback for them - sounds like they need to be clearer about the T's and C's so sellers know what they are getting in terms of pricing.   @HGMetals Hopefully this is useful feedback.

I have bought from them a fair deal and had good experiences.

All the best to you
