(beta) NEW section for Newbie FAQs

This is a trial of a new section intended to help newbies by putting the most frequently asked questions in one place, and giving newbies a section to easily check FAQs and to submit new questions if needed.

Newbie Precious Metals FAQ's. A section for commonly asked questions for those new to precious metals investing and collecting. e.g. Should I buy coins or bars? Is Gold or Silver Better? is there import VAT importing precious metals into my country? This section is a Question format style, whereby the top answers can be upvoted by all members reading, making it easy for newbies to find the most relevant answers to their first questions. For discussions, and questions that are not basic newbie questions please use the discussion sections of the forum for in-depth discussions. For questions specific to using the forum please please use the Questions on using the forum section. Please also see the User Guides section. 

This FAQ section is for Premium Members. Premium Members help to support TSF greatly, and by replying to questions in this section Premium Members can be assured that they are helping other Premium Members who are giving back to the community and helping it to grow further. Upgrade to view FAQ's and ask new newbie questions if they have not already been asked. An extra thank you in advance if you choose a (recommended) Platinum level Premium Membership.

Please help fill up this new section by asking questions that you see frequently asked by new members (if they are not in the FAQ list already) and answering other FAQs. The topic author is able to choose the best answer, which will then appear at the top. Members can upvote and downvote answers, and answers will appear in order of highest voted content. This is in contrast the the discussion sections of the forum where posts show in the order of time posted. This will hopefully help make the answers to newbie's simple FAQs very clear. Some topics are better suited in the discussion area of the forum. 

Currently this section is visible to all Premium Members (as well as Business Accounts, Official Sponsors, Moderators, and Administrator), and all of these groups can post new questions and answer questions.

The same / similar initial questions by new members who are new to collecting and investing precious metals seem to come up again and again. A lot of the time members put in a lot of work and provide extremely detailed and in-depth answers answering these same questions, and previous very well thought out replies in different but similar topics may be hard for members to find at a later date. Keeping all of these questions in a single place will make it easier for searching for new information and for those replying as the same questions should not need to be answered multiple times, or at least not as many, and references bank to and linking existing FAQ topics should be easier.

Awesome, as there was no replies I managed to rejig everything around. I can also submit some other questions that I have seen newbies ask, from the TSF bot account to get thinks started

Hello I'm a newbie here and have been asking loads of questions all over the place and have lots of great anwsers, but to my shame I totally missed this section. Maybe it should be put right under our noses so it's the first place newbies look.

I think it would be good to cover things like:

What's best to buy? quarters, half, full sovereigns or Britannias, etc.

What should I avoid, i.e. British overseas territories coins that are not actually sovereigns.

Buying strategies, what's the best way to start? Should I wait for gold prices to drop before I buy? i.e. backing up the truck when gold is low vs employing a sensible cost averaging approach over time. What is cost averaging?

What is liquidation? Whats the best way to realise my assets, who should I sell to?

Who should I buy from?

How much over the spot should I pay?

How should I store PM and other security issues, i.e. don't tell FB I've bought loads of gold and silver.

 

Just a few questions which come to mind.
