Quarter Sovereigns From "LTAR" and "R"!

Just got the latest promo e-mail from LMO, the London Mint Orifice, and saw these:

Had to play the usual guessing game, but this was relatively easy: Gibraltar

This one is from "R".

I am sure the typical punter is supposed to assume it is a UK issue, which helps to explain why the actual country of issue always seems to be cunningly concealed, as if in the hope nobody notices.

Also aimed at people who might not be able to work out that 3 x £33 = £99, or maybe can't afford £99 all at once.

Actually, they are not expensive at £99 each for proofs. If they were Royal Mint UK issues I think they would be in great demand.

Of course, they are limited to one per household, there is a limit to loss-leaders, and these are just to get suckers onto their mailing lists for more expensive follow up offers.

Perhaps they will be part of a "collection" with similar quarter sovereigns from "Y", "Y", "Y", "S", "S", or some other top secret location.

I quite like the Jubilee coin, I'll wait until one comes up on the secondary market (just to avoid the mailing list issue).

It'll be useless in a coin toss, though.

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

Let not England forget her precedence of teaching nations how to live, and It's  Britannia, with one t and two n's.

At £99 (including postage) this is really good value - especially for a proof coin.  BBP are selling a bullion quarter sovereign for £114.50 (including postage).

Yes, they do phone and try selling you a proof half sovereign for £399, but before they state the price, I always say "I would be interested to see how the price compares to that for a bullion half sovereign for £180".  This tends to put them on the defensive as it shows I know a little about the gold market (and am not quite gar gar yet).  And then I say I can't afford it - even with split payments.

Could it be Maltar?  Usually its easier to hide TDC . I wonder who mints these? Either way, these adverts are not for discerning members of TSF who are not easily fooled....! 🤡
