New Testing Equipment: The Pocket Pinger

Recommended Posts

I received the Pocket Pinger from Sound Metals Money in the mail today; I originally posted the info on this product in the link below:

Initial thoughts...the package comes with the Pocket Pinger, the Stack Stick, four extra nubs, and an instruction manual.  Instructions are clear.  Testing: I tested my SML on the Pocket Pinger, and it didn't ping.  It rang, but the initial ping didn't last.  The same is true when using the Stack Stick.   When testing a fake ASE and a fake Morgan, the Pocket Pinger worked properly and there is a lingering ping sound after you hit the fake coins.   I have reached out the inventor for an explanation, and I will update as I learn more.   But I have a suspicion that my SML isn't compatible with the Pocket Pinger for some unknown reason.    I will need to get additional genuine coins (not SML) to test the Pocket Pinger before giving my final assessment.   Stay tuned.

I received word from the inventor.  Apparently SML do ring "differently", and that they do have a shorter duration to the ping.   More effort is required when using the Stack Stick to get the SML to ping and ring properly.   You'll need to hit the edge of the rim with enough force and speed to make the correct sound.  The plastic buds holding the coin also needs to be aligned correctly.  I've tried it and it seems to work.

Are you using a testing app with this? they work really well imo. Also coin should be centred when held. App is free.
