Royal Mint sales?

Recommended Posts

Firstly I doubt the RM strikes the entire mintage, and creates all the packaging, COAs, etc., and stores the completed sets just waiting for them to be shipped.

It’s more likely they mint an estimated amount to reduce wastage of time and resources producing, storing, and “decommissioning” (melting coins and discarding packaging) for unpopular series.

This is why they play it safe by giving themselves some leeway of a few days or weeks to deliver coins after launch.

Of course as with all estimates, they sometimes over or under estimate - which is why there can be delays in delivery when a series is popular, or coins going on sale a year or so after launch when they are not.

They often offer discounts on unpopular lines.

interesting, do you recall how long they wait before they offer discounts and how much the discount was last time they did it? I'm hoping they discount the Mr Men line

If it doesn't sell well, they will. Assuming of course that they haven't changed their production runs so that they don'e end up with any surplus stock.
I have seen many a coloured 50p coin on sale in the last few years.

Yeah as said above they do launch several sales a year covering Black Friday, Boxiing Day, etc. Generally there will be some semi popular coins with 10% off and the stuff they haven't been able to shift has a higher discount up to 50% but the chances of finding something you actually want at 50% off are slim.
