closed Hammer Finish Sphere - The earth as it formed!

Recommended Posts

So, last year I poured a prototype Planet earth which didn't come out amazing (first pour from the mould and didn't take a lot of the details of the continents).

I had it hallmarked but it never was used as we made better planet earths.

So, I took my hammer to it and made it look like the Earth when it was formed!

It has been antiqued with a deep patina and then the ridged upper layers have been sanded/polished to give this ridged texture effect.

Weight: 12.33 ozt

Hallmark: 2019 year date

I like the idea of a spherical fiddle piece for my desk. Hammered finish looks awesome. You should consider making more of these "mistakes"!

In theory there is no reason why this wouldnt work for the smaller globe we have (from memory they are about 5.5 ozt)

Fancy a little commission!?

I could go with this if you can make it the exact size as the moon. Then I can swap both out for a change 👍😉

I mean this is tempting as hell. Would love a 5 oz hammered ball!

The mould being what it is means it would be 5.4 to 5.5 ozt I'm afraid, cannot get it to 5

To be honest i was never taken by the Earth globe but this is very nice. You have turned a sow's ear into a silk purse.

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.

If enough of us are interested could you get a limited series going for us? Would bring down the cost for all I suppose?

Doesnt have to be exactly 5 oz mate haha, but in the "ball" park would be great!

Well, I am certain they will sell if I made just a limited amount of them, I already have Troy going for a small one

We can do them for £154 each

If you want to pull the trigger just PM me.

For anyone wondering, I have just been working out the diameter of a 5oz ish ball of silver.

If my calculations are correct, I get about 3.2cm diameter. Can someone else confirm my result? If it is that size thats a wicked fiddle size!

There are no online calculators that allow you to calculate sphere radius using only mass and density, so we have to extrapolate from volume first. I trawled reddit for this and it seems to check out. Mass = about 161 g, density is about 10.5 g/cm^3

V = M/D

And using the relationship between volume and radius...

V = 4πR3/3

so

V = M/D = 4πR3/3

R = (3M / 4πD)1/3

I got one of @BackyardBullion's planet and moon - and love to (as you put it @StackerNoob) fiddle with it on my desk - its VERY RELAXING!
