So the gold on the ring weighs no more than 1g as a sovereign is just under 8g.

Id say £400 is a perfectly fine price.

I assume its 9ct so you'd get approx £125 scrap value just for the ring.

I think the ring total is 9g not 9g of gold plus sovereign. 1g of 9kt gold is about £13 and even if 18kt it would add on maybe £26. A jewellery sovereign is normally less valuable than a regular one. Unless it has a Canada mintmark it won't be a particularly rare one.

Someone may like it for historical/aesthetic reasons but as scrap it's less than £300 if 9kt perhaps £310 if 18kt.

Having said that £400 isn't a bad price for it but a dealer certainly won't give you that.

Ebay may be the best place for something like this. More interest I'd suspect 🙂

I'd lean towards it being a half as well.  I used to have a half ring as a pinky ring and unless this woman has large fingers it looks more like it will be a half.

A shop will probably only give you just under bullion value for it and sovereign rings aren't exactly popular now.

This makes the £400 more like double the price you'd get from a dealer.
