Steve here and I'm dipping my toe into collecting silver and maybe the occasion piece of gold for a change, but primarily I'm looking at silver coins and looking to begin collecting as soon as possible having decided which way to go.

I've decided on coins and specifically one ounce silver coins.  I'm looking, initially at least, to collect coins as a collector rather than an investor or as some kind of addition pension provision.....although I accept one may lead to another either by accident or design.  I think what I'm trying to say is I want to collect for pleasure as opposed to for profit.

I will look to the search facility and previous threads to see what I can learn and especially YouTube as there's enough information there to sink a ship!

If I may ask one question, in two parts;) it would be am I being over-ambitious by looking to collect many different types of coins as opposed to specialising in certain mints, countries, themes etc.  (This could evolve later anyway).  What coins are others collecting/avoiding - just to give me an idea as I'm hoping there's no right or wrong way of doing things, only different.

as well as here I've already registered with a couple of overseas companies recommended on here STG and GS.de with my first 50+ order primed and ready to go.

Any comments or recommendations welcome.

Welcome

Regarding your GS.be / STG order, you may wish to see if @BackyardBullion is doing an October order. Ive just had quite a few coins from the Aug / Sept GS.be group order and save on shipping fees.

Ive also just bought some items from silvertrader.uk ( newcastle ) his prices seem really competitive so may be worth looking at too, through the website not through his ebay though as the costs are greater.

As of what to collect/ stack there is loads of you tube vids to watch which may help you have more of an idea. @Numistacker @BackyardBullion @ShadowStack all have good videos with loads of info.

This is all info that was offered to me as a newbie and i've definitely benefited from it.

Everyone seems really helpful on here so don't be afraid of asking before committing to purchases, just helps me with peace of mind.

Thanks all - can I just add the reason I'm eager to start collecting is I have two pre-paid currency cards expiring soon.  One has a large amount in  Euro and the other in USD - I have no plans on visiting either regions therefore before I even consider spending any sterling, I'd be using those to start collecting from the usual suspects STG and GS.be for Euro and Dollars respectively.  Probably looking at 4oz silver each to make the shipping less of a pain.

Thats the plan but before I press the buy button, I'll see what others think of my collection strategy.  - I'll post on the main forum so as not to get myself into trouble this early:o
