Browse a couple of times a day.
Then a more calculated look (per gram) just before a purchase.

Firstly I'm not a stacker but a collector so I consider it to be a hobby. I will most probably buy coins on an annual basis when the price is right for at least the next 15-20 years. Then if I'm ever strapped for cash in my retirement I can sell a few coins as required.

With prices hitting ATH pretty much every other day, have you thought about a cut off point?
Me personally, I’m still gonna stick with the plan of at least a sovereign or 1/4 oz a month till retirement and then cash out that Sovereign or quarter per month to help out when the pension isn’t enough to cover my planned life style of slow cars and fast women!!

When I started it was twice a day, then I got bored and that changed to be a couple of times a year, but since I joined TSF it's there on the banner, so back a few times a day again.
For me, if I'm looking to hold long term, I would hardly ever bother.

Unsure why so many people were bashing Wonger, I really appreciated his insights as I did the exact opposite and back up the truck and completed my collection of 1oz Gold Queens Beasts collection. Thanks Wonger if you ever decide to visit Manchester let me know I will happy to buy you a pint......

I'm in no particular hurry and have scratched an itch. I have learned a lot in the last 6 months. It was fun while it lasted but I can wait. I'm the meantime I'll put my main investments elsewhere. I may buy some more coins when gold drops again or then again I may not. I've discovered that there are a lot of hidden costs and hassle in buying bullion in the form of coins. Even with the CGT exemption factoring in things like postage, grading, premiums, spot price, etc seems to largely cancel out profit, certainly in the short term. Don't get me wrong I don't bemoan gold bullion in this form, it was a very informative experiment on my behalf and it's nice having shiny gold coins to hand. But as someone on here once told me there are much more effective ways of investing, although I maintain that this is a more fun investment and hedge (but only if it doesn't cost more than spot at it's lowest point in the year). Ultimately I'd sooner time the market and back up the truck than incurring losses through DCA. But thats just my opinion not sound financial advice. 😆

Unfortunately the way we look at these coins now is no doubt very different to the people who could afford to buy these sets when they were new. No doubt the owner would get his mates together after the big dinner, cigars and booze out and then …. hey look what I’ve got…. followed by everyone having a good hands on look at them, then back in the draw! Then repeat!😮 The good thing is that they’ve managed to stay together 🤔

@sovereignsteve @Spyder I took the coins back today and made him an offer of €5000. I explained the reasons behind the offer. He didn’t say no. He just said he wants to show a couple of other collectors and see if they make an offer. I get the distinct feeling he was expecting more. Let’s wait and see 🙏

Really a shame about the £5 tbh. If you held a gun to my head I'd say £5000/€6000. That being said others may see it differently.
