Hi cjbcomm, the basic model is ok, it compares to a scratch acid test. The mini pro, investor and pro version s have a specific gravity test as well as deeper reading s than the original. The mini pro needs an iPad/phone/device to connect to, the investor is very similar to the mini pro but has a built in screen, the pro is twice the size and has the option of adding an external bridge for the bigger bars. Check out Sigmas home page and distributor list.https://www.sigmametalytics.com/pmv-videos-improved a sample of the different machines on offer. The specific gravity test on later models fixes the problem s the original has. Good luck.
