  1. I have a couple of Libertads, American Eagles and Morgan dollars, as well as some Somali 1 oz coins, maples, a tube of Britannias which are a mix o5 2023/2022/2019/2016. The 1/4 dragon is one of my favourites and I think my expectations on a price to sell are probably too high as I discussed with @Leonmarsh I found it being sold for £750 on bullionbypost and just under £600 elsewhere online but someone was selling them far cheaper on here recently so it may be worth waiting as it would take a high price to part with it (not £600 but certainly a fair bit more than a normal 1/4 oz coin)
  2. Thank you for your reply. I myself am going through a similar journey. I work as a head hunter working mostly with start ups and political correctness is a big issue which is not getting much better but tax and economic freedom are also the big drivers for me as the UK seems to be at war with small business owners. I Would service European and US businesses but want to work from somewhere in Europe so I'm at the start of the journey that it sounds like you are on. Have you looked at Poland at all and so far which countries have been your favourites? I saw nomad capitalist recommending Montenegro recently due to tax advantages and ease of starting a business. To me it seems like they are trying to open the door to foreign money and seem to want to attract investment to the country so it being in the earlier stages of development makes me think it could be a good place when looking forward. Slovenia and Hungary are both places I wanted to consider but perhaps Romania is worth looking at as well? One thing I liked about Montenegro was that they treat the dogs and cats in the street very well with a lot of charities which says a lot about the people culturally but I think my end game would be starting a charity like that when I get to older age so I liked that a lot. I think its definitely worth checking out, there are some cheap properties there in amazing locations but the typical modern, luxury beach apartments are starting to be built at scale which is another plus since towns like Budva seem to be rapidly developing and with that property prices should appreciate nicely. Have you considered Portugal, Malta or Gibraltar at all?
  3. Than you, I had heard of this but had no idea it was so widespread. It adds some nice charm to what I thought was a defect! Montenegro is an interesting country. I follow a business on YouTube called 'Nomad Capitalist' who specialise in helping people relocate to more tax efficient countries and they recently have been recommending Montenegro because being a former communist nation the people remember how awful it was and so are embracing capitalism while still keeping a more relaxed way of life. I was shocked to discover that income tax for people and businesses is only 9% (13% is the maximum once you get to over £500K Euros) and I am considering moving there in the future. I worked out recently that 70% of everything I earn goes to paying tax in some form. Over there earning the same income working for myself I would effectively be earning more than double just because of the tax. Also public services were a lot better than where I live in the UK, there was far less crime (even in the rougher areas we visited) and the people were very friendly and had much better communities. The corruption is a concern but it seems to be far more free than the UK is and better than places like Bali or Thailand where I have also considered moving to but ruled out. Budva has ancient Roman ruins right outside the walled town so I imagine there are a lot of coins that are found locally but the lack of any organised dealers seems to mean that they end up staying in these antique stores to be bought by the occasional tourist who has an interest in coins. I felt like if I had more time to research I could have made a great profit but I found the shop as it was due to close on our last night. The shop had a lot of coins from the Bosnian war period from all sides. The shopkeeper had large coin books full with prices written on and was very happy to sell so a professional could probably do very well there while also making him very happy also. The old town is definitely worth a visit, next time I'll book an apartment in the town. It would be like staying in a time capsule because the town really felt like you were back 500 years in the past.
  4. I have a lot of 2oz queens beasts coins if you are interested? I have most of the series apart from the unicorn, falcon and Griffin. Are there any in particular that you are interested in?
  5. I did find some when I did a quick search which made me think that there were a lot out there. Funnily enough I came across a number of them which seemed to have pieces missing from the edge (I'm not sure if there is a reason for this damage?) I think its crazy that we can buy ancient coins for such a low price. When I started stacking I thought ancient coins were a thing for the super wealthy. I guess we are fortunate that so many are out there which keeps the price accessible.
  6. Ha, I hope that I didn't sound too much like a used car salesmen trying to upsell! In all honesty I don't mind which parts of my stack I sell, everything is always for sale at the right price. I have a 2023 memorial sovereign, a 2017 1/4 oz queens beats dragon and a 2023 Britannia (I just checked as I had the dates wrong!) I'm open to offers for them all but it would have to be for the right price so it just depends if you are after any of those three and if so please feel free to PM me and I can share pictures and discuss price as well.
  7. Hi all, I recently went on holiday to Montenegro and stayed in Budva. Its an amazing place with a walled town which was a Roman province and later a Venetian town which is what most of the architecture now is from. I really wanted to find some coins and discovered an amazing antique shop with hundreds of coins from all over the world within the walled city on our last night. I brought a couple of Montenegrin coins more for a memory of the holiday than anything else but also saw a rough looking Illyrian silver drachma which I decided to buy despite my ignorance of ancient coins because I love history. Having only brought a few Roman Denari my knowledge of ancients is very limited and a quick search didn't find anything about the value of this coin but it only cost me 50 Euros and is a good memory. I wanted to buy a lot more. There were even some coins from Nazi Germany with the swastika which I have heard are rare as well as coins from the region and across the world. To me it looked like the man running the shop may have inherited them as he didn't seem too interested in the history but I could be wrong. Can anyone tell me more about this coin? I may go back to Budva but next time will hit the shop up with more knowledge as I didn't expect to come across such a treasure trove so did no research before buying. Any information about this, Montenegro or anything else mentioned would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  8. Sure thing, I'm just waiting for payment though so unfortunately I think its gone. I have a 1/4 oz Britannia, a 1/4 oz queens beast 2021 dragon and a memorial sovereign that I may be convinced to part with if you would look at a larger purchase?
  9. I have messaged everyone who has responded, please check your DMs. I will sell to whoever is first to agree postage and method of payment so as soon as I have that info I will reserve the items for you all. Thanks everyone.
  10. Hi all, I have decided to sell some of my stack to create some liquidity for other investments. These items were all brought from either bullionbypost or veteran sellers from this forum. Payments via Bank Transfer or Paypal and I will post them immediately. 10 oz Germania Mint fine silver bar - £240 10 oz Canadian Mint fine silver bar - £240 10oz Silvertowne Mint buffalo fine silver bar - £230 Umicore 1g gold bar in assay card - £55 x2 Una and the Lion Royal Mint silver bars - £45 each
  11. I'll take them if theman73 doesn't end up taking them.
  12. Thanks for this comment, we see this behaviour with equities all of the time but with metals its so much easier to understand their value that I thought it would stop businesses getting away with charging these sort of insane prices. I guess the answer is that people assume that they are paying a fair price based on assumption.
  13. That's interesting to hear, personally I don't think this is the case since you never hear about precious metals being seized during these raids and from knowing quite a bit about that world growing up around those sorts of people they are almost all extremely stingy with money and won't overpay if it can be avoided so they just would outright refuse to overpay after comparing prices online where they could still buy and then claim they sold it or use a third party to order on their behalf which is something these people do a lot when making large purchases like a car. Bitcoin also rapidly became the vehicle for discreetly storing wealth in those circles so even the old practice of having jewellery that could be pawned in an emergency died out. From what I observed it seemed like there are older people who trust the shop because there is always a person available (ironic since the prices are so inflate) and buy mostly metals to pawn a few years down the line should they need cash using it like a savings account except the appreciation is almost non existent if they aren't holding for over 5 years or in case of the platinum even if the price doubled they would still only be breaking even. I want to hang out there and figure this mystery out but they probably don't want me hanging around!
  14. I had a very interesting trip to a pawnbrokers in my home town of Reading, UK (H&T pawnbrokers) the other day and was shocked to discover that they sell precious metals very quickly for insane prices (despite their website having reduced prices which are high but more reasonable - https://handt.co.uk/) They had an ounce of platinum in an assay card for over £2000, many different second hand silver bullion coins which are sold for close to double what an online retailer costs (even after adding 20% VAT) Gold is more reasonably priced but still is 25% higher than any online dealer despite it being second hand (a 10g gold bar for example was priced £700) I couldn't resist speaking with them and asking how they can justify such high prices, pointing out that the ounce of platinum was over double the spot price for example and told them that I would pick something up every time I passed the shop if they were competitive but as they are so overpriced it makes no sense since. They gave me the chat about how as a shop they have higher overheads which I countered by explaining how genuine bullion dealers and coin shops with physical stores charge a set % over spot which surprised them as they clearly have no clue about coins or bars despite it being literally 40% of their stock and after chatting for a while they admitted that they set the prices so high because people are buying it and they actually sell out quickly! I understand the smaller coins maybe being brought by people just as a nice trinket with no consideration given to the value but I find it hard to believe that people are buying ounces of gold and platinum for double spot price so I wanted to ask everyone here if this is common and if so who is buying PMs at such a high price? I feel like there could be a lot of elderly people buying these items, assuming that they are paying a fair price who then cash it in a few years later only to be told that the metal hasn't performed well when really the mark up is so high there is no possibility of the items retaining their value. I understand that buyers have a responsibility to educate themselves but its frustrating seeing people being taken advantage of and precious metals getting a bad reputation as a result. Anyone else come across this?
  15. A few months into stacking before finding this forum I used to order silver paying the 20% VAT from dealers. 20% is such a big extra cost that it makes it a poor investment so avoiding paying that is a huge plus so I have no idea why anyone would pay when they can buy silver on here (especially Brits and modern bars that have security features) and not start negative 20% on their investment. Do people still buy direct from dealers and pay this? I have heard stories of fake coins and bars being sent by accident from the large online dealers so the security doesn't even seem to be worth it. On a side not a local pawn shop is routinely selling gold silver and platinum from their store in my town (Reading) at a huge mark up. They have an oz of platinum for over £2000 atm when its spot price is under £800 per oz which shows how much variance there is when buying and selling.
  16. Tbh I think the design is incredible, my favourite by a country mile out of all government issues coins. The waves and security features look fantastic, especially in gold. If they could sort the milk spotting out I’d buy a lot more though, that made me stop after a tube. Oddly other RM silver coins like queens beasts and the Robin Hood series that I’ve got seem to have a better finish and no milk spotting.
  17. If it’s not sold by Friday I’ll probably take it.
  18. Stunning 1/4 gold qb dragon from @NGMD Fantastic buyer, can’t recommend him enough 🙏
  19. Sorry if this is a stupid question but can't you cash these in at the Bank for either cash or to add to your balance?
