  1. The RM does such an outstanding on design and minting it just baffles me how or why they crank out issues like the Police or even The Rolling Stones. Both iconic bands, but the tribute coins are terrible. How about using some of the time spent on these to produce my 5 oz Petition crown set - ordered and paid in March?
  2. @tpcob303 I in the US and consider myself a collector. I have a complete set of American Silver Eagles back to 2014 and decided to stop after this year. One or two key coins, but otherwise has become boring and repetitive. I started with the Morgan and Peace coins in 2021 and subscribed to 2023 issues as a curiosity if this may be the ground floor of a new series. High mintage makes these a loser for flippers, but still interesting to collect. re UK coins I collect sovereigns, Tudor Beasts, Great Engravers, Coronation releases, hammered coins, and annual proof sets. 2022/2023 was an exciting period for sovereign collectors with the change in monarchs. I 100% disagree these issues (especially SOTD) were a flop. Maybe flippers didn’t double their money in a week, but over the next 10 or 20 years the historic value of these coins will be realized.
  3. Is the reverse proof only available to mint marquee customers? My rep did not mention it (saves me from temptation, she did however get me a SOTD…..)
  4. Or the coronation 1/4 oz gold at 1250 mintage…..however, that’s a proof coin and £750. I think the bullion version at £443 sounds like a fair deal and a modest mintage.
  5. Speaking as a US collector you are correct that they are anticipated, primarily from a collector standpoint. Mintage is quite high (especially compared to RM numbers) on all issues so the flip potential is zero in the short term. If you’re collecting, they are beautiful and you have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor - I believe you should be able to get them all either in advance order or on on release day.
  6. No, I believe you actually said numismasochists and I have committed that witty word to my vocabulary….
  7. I bought a couple extra 50p Piedfort, 5£ crown, and a 1/4 oz gold to sell in US. No bites at all. It’s like trying to sell a case of Covid- am I just being impatient or is the bloom already off the rose?
  8. Me too. Hopefully you are a very patient person. With a July 14 production date, QC, order processing and shipping I think we are looking at mid August. US will be a touch ahead of Australia but not much. I hope our jubilation matches our anticipation.
  9. I just noticed that these are sold out at the RM. When did that happen?
  10. Well that end of June ship has sailed and no 5 oz petition crown set…… They charged me in May so at least it’s paid for when it heads to the US. I’m sure it will be special. I do love the touch of history that comes from the RM.
  11. A bit off the current topic, but has anyone heard when the 5 ounce silver set might see the light of day? It’s been a few months and not a peep.
  12. I’m of a like mind with @JeffM and am fortunate to have a couple sets of the four sovereigns mentioned above. I received notice today that my KCIII proof sovs are shipping today - that’s probably no big deal to you boys in the UK, but mine are on the way!🎉🎊
  13. This thread has really taken some wild turns over the last week. It started with who is in, who likes the coin, what set, how many, etc. The folks looking for a quick profit jumped in with debates on prices, mintage, the search for only 70’s, and complaints on RM service and quality. Finally politics reared it’s ugliness with debates on KC III. Let’s all take a deep breath and realize what we are talking about - a coin. That’s all. If you like it, jump in. If you don’t or you don’t agree with the government, the prices, mintage, package, mintage limit ….don’t buy the coin or deal with the RM. I’m a collector who loves his collection - some are perfect, some have flaws, but in the end I bought them because I liked them. It’s a chance to travel back in time and hold something that was part of someone’s life - maybe they carried it in a war, or on their wedding day. Some are worth a bunch, some just look good to me. It’s a hobby (definitely an expensive one) but not my retirement plan and not worth raising my blood pressure over. Happy hunting for your treasures.
  14. I have a couple of proof full sovereigns coming. Mine are on an automatic ship subscription from the RM so I can sleep in Monday - no 1AM wake up and queue for me! Now I have two sets of the Jubilee sov, the Memorial sov, and Coronation sov, possibly not so exciting right now, but some day I think it will be a winner. Has anyone heard actual mintage numbers or is that a closely guarded secret like all other RM info?
  15. I got a notice this morning from the RM that these are the annual proof sovereign releases and not an additional special release, so if something comes in the fall it will be 2024.
  16. General question here - IF you were trying to budget your way through the sovereign morass this year and you had already been lucky enough to get a SOTD, would you still see a need to jump on the next sov proof bandwagon this Monday. I’m feeling a bit of sov overload and thinking I’d like to avoid a hangover.
  17. I just received an email from the RM that the coronation proof sovereign collection goes on sales Monday June 12 at 9AM. (see below) Can someone please help me understand. Is this the sovereign release, or simply another coronation special sovereign- the picture shows a proof sov with a crowned Charles and St Geo and Dragon on reverse. It’s a proof version of the SOTD. I can’t imagine we will still have another in the fall in the regular schedule…… The Coronation Proof Sovereign Available 9am, Monday 12 June In celebration of His Majesty The King’s coronation, we are proud to announce the launch of a new Sovereign collection featuring a unique crowned coinage portrait of The King designed exclusively for The Royal Mint and only available as part of the Coronation UK Coin Collection. The Coronation Sovereign Collection will be available to order from 9am BST, Monday 12 June. We anticipate high demand for these coins, so please be ready to place your order from 9am.
  18. I have never been a SOTD buyer except for this one. Were the various ones issued during Queen Elizabeth’s reign all unique or could you say the same thing?
  19. @Chrisplym it’s probably not much consolation but if the RM has assured you it’s coming then it is. If they have taken your money, the coins are minted and it’s likely some logistical foul up. Over the years they have caused me a bit of anxiety, but in the end have come through. The dealers may have received theirs already due to some contractual agreement (and buy in larger volume). If you’re planning a flip, the prices will hold. If you’re a collector it will be worth the wait.
  20. Sometimes the dealers have more influence with graders and get faster responses. I guess patience will be required on your part. Might give time for the prices to settle down.
  21. It can take about 12 weeks. Usually they give an estimate, but rarely hit it.
  22. It’s officially Coronation Christmas in May! Received 4 different shipments today - 5£ Piedfort, 50p Piedfort, 2 oz silver, 1/4 oz gold, 1/40 oz gold, and a few sets. Everything was in great shape, QC did an excellent job, could not be more pleased. (SOTD was last week - that headed straight to the safe)
  23. If you are looking at SOTD keep in mind they are a matte finish (kind of like a bullion coin) and might not grade as perfect. If you want a 70 you probably want to buy one already graded. The one I received is not perfect, but I don’t believe in grading these. They are rare and limited due to the event and mintage, perfection may not be the goal. Just one guy’s opinion……
