  1. @jason94151 the US, not having the Monarch requirement will supposedly have a bristlecone pine tree and some type of fern? Bristlecone pine tree is actually a pretty nice element they have used before. I’d rather have that than another KC III portrait- nothing against the king, just like some variety
  2. The real number I’m concerned with is my place in the queue. At 1am (California) time I’m always hoping for a low number for an easy in and out and back to bed.
  3. @Chrisplym from the RM website 2 ounce silver mintages Petition Crown 2 coin set. 3250 Gothic Portrait 4000 Gothic QA. 3750 Three Graces. 3500 Una. 3000
  4. Shouldn’t we wait until we see it before we pronounce it DOA? Get in the queue on release day and make a game time decision. Don’t miss the fun of being number 2500 in the queue……..
  5. Hmmm - Two two oz gold GE issues could buy you several sovereigns. However I’m interested to see St George in the larger format of a two or 5 oz coin - should be a treat you don’t get in a sovereign size, even the big sovs
  6. One hour later……Sold out again…and back again. This has been like a tennis match.
  7. When I first checked this morning almost every offering was sold out, now most are available. Overall a good showing for a set receiving so many negative reviews.
  8. From the chatter it seems like it would resemble the 2017 200th anniversary sovereign or the original 1817 George III sov.
  9. I’m with the crowd who believes we are in a coin overload phase. I made the mistake of overpaying for the gothic portrait and quartered arms coins, but I still find the designs are classic. The 5 ounce quartered arms is stunning. The petition crown series took a hit with the production/shipment delays and the eventual cancellation of the 5 ounce, however I still think it’s a beautiful coin and a minting achievement. This rumored Pistrucci coin has some real potential of breathing life back into the series, but only as a single coin release. Two ounce or 5 ounce format will really showcase the design - especially in gold.
  10. I finally received my proof set and am quite pleased with the designs and quality. Good job RM
  11. @Petra Unfortunately but absolutely spot on. Stick it back in the box and sell it to people like me. The difference between a 69 and a 70 is entirely with a subjective grader who maybe had a bad day.
  12. I bid on some , but fell short. Several of the proof coins, including that 2017 3 coin set seemed to have some problems, like fingerprints? Hopefully for all who purchased it was a case of poor photography.
  13. I received two yesterday and the silver (reclaimed from X-ray film) 1/2 oz. Everything was in good order.

    2017 sovereign

I’m in the market for a 2017 sovereign (200th anniv) either a proof or STOD. I have looked at Chards and Britannia coin, both great dealers (I have dealings with both) and I’m wondering if anyone has another source or two to compare prices. I’m in the U.S. so I need someone who exports. Any other comments are welcome, thanks in advance for your help.
  16. I’m disappointed. Both the RM and US mint are capable of more creative/inspiring designs. I don’t know what was behind this design, but if you look at what both mints put out this year, this release is in the bottom 25%.
  17. Normally this would be the time of year when these issues would make their appearance. Does anyone have insight into the future of these series? Both kind of stumbled last year among problems and competition from other historical events. What do you think or know - anything in the works?
  18. Lots of pics on sites in the US. Glad you guys got a set. Even at 250,000 mintage they did sell out this morning. I think it’s a special set and a real keeper. I am attaching a pic I took from one of the sites - it’s not my picture but someone did a great job. Mine are due next Tuesday.

    SOTD sovereigns

Can anyone explain this me? This guy had a coronation SOTD sovereign that he sold below cost. It was graded a 69, but it’s still a rare, sought after coin. Someone scored big to me.
  20. I’m just not that excited. I think it’s overload from the last two years …and a new proof sovereign. I bought a couple 1/40th to go with my coronation 1/40 set. Maybe I’ll make them all into shirt buttons one day…… Also grabbed a half ounce silver just to see what it looks like. Pass on SOTD

    SOTD sovereigns

@SiCole hey no cheek intended. I just figured the folks in the UK have a better idea of the popularity of KC III than I might have in the US. Politics seems to muck up each country in different ways. I’m thinking of starting a KCIII sovereign run and figured I can’t get any closer to the ground floor than this. Thanks for your input
  23. I’m doing Tudor Beasts proof 2oz silver. I think the designs are great, interesting history, and it’s a bit unique that two different monarchs appear during the course of the series.

    SOTD sovereigns

@SiCole and others - so I ask, If the opportunity to purchase a KC III 75th STOD presents itself would you do it? I don’t know if I’ll get the chance, but I’d like some informed opinions if I do.
