There is a section of the forum to buy sell and trade, you could take some photos and post with the price you would like. (there is a 'quickstart' guide to help)

You could sell to a dealer, give them a call or if you go to their websites then they often have a 'sell to us' section and may list the price of the coin you have that they will pay.

Alternatively you might have a 'we buy gold' or pawn shop locally.

In my experience you're likely to get more money in your pocket from the forum, second via a main dealer and the least money returned form the 3rd option, you can always ask and if not happy with the price offered then keep your gold.

    Thank you! :)

  2. Hi there,

I have a Queen beast bullion 2021 1 oz gold coin that I would like to sell. Where can I sell this? I know ebay fees are high.

Are there any shops that would take the coin and would they give me good money for it? Anything near the coin value.

    regards

You may wish to invest a little of your own time by searching through the relevant UK ungraded sales items, maybe by searching the forum using George V Sovereign first, then looking only at results within the sold items.

Thank you for your help. I’ve been doing

that too, but get confused with the different conditions and grading etc.  For the same sovereign I get given different prices by people selling such as for a 2013 Bombay I got offered £509.

  4. Hi there,

I am interested in this Bombay mint sovereign and I was wondering if someone can help identify any faults or anything before I buy.

also roughly on how much I should pay as a maximum as I am still fairly new to sovereigns.

    Kind regards

The 1891 coin you purchased is in average grade and condition, worth a small premium to a bullion sov but not too much.

    Hi there,

How much would you say it’s worth? Also what would you describe as average grade?

1891 Sovs London Mint have a mintage of around 6.3 million.. I'd say between £380-£440 for sovreign of this year in decent condition depending where you purchase it... Just a few tips if you are going to buy more in the future...the shield backs tend to be more desirable, also look at the Melbourne and Sydney mints as they minted fewer sovreigns than the London Mint and are very collectable..there are many different varieties..do a little research you will be surprised on the differences.

The 1918 GV is a nice one to have as was only minted in bombay for that year with around only  1,000,000 produced.

Good luck with your collecting...you can't go wrong with sovreigns..but stay away from Ebay!!

Thank you so much for your advice and guidance!

I have had a look at shields and they were out of my current budget. But this is something I would love to add to my collection too.

Are there any websites you recommend where I can get more information on the different type of sovereigns?

The 1918 one is definitely next on my list. Would eBay be reliable if it comes with certificates and boxing etc?

    Kind Regards

Well done hope it's the first of many for you. It looks a nice coin.

There's a sale listing from @1stsovereignwith some victoria jubilee head sovs at £320 each.

I'm not clued up on the specific dates and mintages if there is something about that date or mintage or mint mark it might fetch a little more

    Hi there,

Thank you so much. I will have a look at those.

I am really interested in getting the 1918 Bombay mint sovereign. That’s next on my list hopefully.🤞

I rang the eBay number they listed and it was not recognized . I started a web chat and it would not work. I finally sent off an email.  They are a shambles. My credit card payment is pending. Hopefully it'll go through tomorrow and clear the listing. It's still saying i need to pay. The seller is getting frustrated and probably thinks i'm bullshitting. I told him to make a non payment claim asap as this may be the only way to get through to these idiots.   This is my last purchase . I will close my account when this is eventually all sorted.

Try Facebook message them or Twitter dms,

They always answer there. Shouldn’t be an issue, if it leads to a issue then ring your bank and they should help if eBay don’t.

Gillicks at dealers are usually priced close to spot and certainly not anywhere near 400 for bullion on the forum or at dealers.  Recently, a forum member was selling lots in what looked like MS condition for around 320 if my memory serves me correctly.

My most recent dealer experience was buying superb condition 1959 Gillicks in superb MS condition for very close to the same price as 2021 Sovereigns.

If you want interesting - look at shields

    Best

I’ve been checking ebay, but I will look at dealers and more on the forum too.

I will have a look into shields, thank you for your recommendation.

Personally I prefer best value, I like things that have been around for years, but ultimately it's just bullion. It's metal and try not to get emotionally attached. I paid £315, which is a little more expensive but for reason's we are not allowed to speak about (Voldemort). I have purchased 8 through best value method and three have been sent through with this year's date.

Fair enough, I’ve just gotten into sovereigns but I prefer the old ones rather than the new sovereigns.

1957 to 69 "Gillicks" are popular and tend to attract a bit of a premium on them, because most were non circulation so are in good condition, yet old enough to have historical value. The first decimal set, from 74 to 84 "second portrait" are probably the more affordable from those dates.

The third portrait, from 85 to  97 were only minted in Proof condition and cost upwards of £400 at a minimum.

BTW, if you are looking for interesting coins, ignore the modern sovereigns. They look neither gold in colour and have much less detail than the older varieties.

Yes, the prices on them are £400+ on auctions I have checked. They sell for a high price.

Definitely not wanting a modern sovereign. The old ones just look more aesthetically better. Hopefully I get myself that. Thank you for your help.

I received 2 sovs today from bbp. I paid for best value and got 2021 coins on both purchases. Both delivered next day.

Are you happy with them or wanted something else?

also how much did the best value cost? if you don’t mind me asking.

My suggestion. Have a look at the Coins of the Realm and Coin Cabinet past auctions and see what has been on offer before within your budget, and what takes your fancy.

Suggest that you will pick up a George V pre WW1 or even a Victoria Old Head for £330 either on here or in one of their next auctions. Much more interesting than the modern sovereigns.

Yes, I want a sovereign from the 60-90’s as it is more interesting to have and to add to a collection.

I will have a look at the past auctions. Thank you for that.

I’m no expert to be honest. Personally I would buy them new straight from the Royal Mint for peace of mind that they aren’t fakes.

There are other more knowledgeable people than myself on here who would be better at advising what to get if you want to buy the older coins instead.

    Thank you for that:)

Maybe best going into a physical bullion dealers then you can look at a couple and choose the one you want that's old enough and in a condition you're happy with at the right price. If buying online some have condition notes if you're buying a specific year sov.

Thank you for that, I will do that. I’ve been looking online but some people are really over pricing them to the point where no one even bids. But fingers crossed I find one.

I don't think 2021 sovs are a special date. To me it's a bullion coin if you want a 2021 or one that is 'new' to you then choose 2021 sov. Most dealers have this on their website too, it typically doesn't cost much more than a random year sov maybe a couple of £ .

Yes, I’ve come across a lot of these but I’m trying to find something that goes back many years.

thank you for your advice and help btw, I do appreciate it:)

Contact @SVcollector, he has tons and for reasonable prices.

I would go for a bullion coin first. Just to see if you like the coin. Mind you: It is much smaller than what you expect it to be.

My first sovereign was a 1872 bullion. A common one with 13.486.708 minted. But i paid just 3% above spot at time of purchase.

    Hi there,

I will message him, thank you for that.

I have the The Queen's Beasts 2021 Gold 1oz at the moment and 2x of these in 2 oz silver.

A good sovereign you have , they hold

    up a good price.

    - Access the bullion comparison tracking page - tracks the cheapest coins by type by dealer

    - Access sales by members section. Some of the best Sovereign deals available anywhere but are offered on the forum but they sell quickly.
