Look on the compare tab on here, Gerrards currently have them for £318.00 plus small change
Think I missed out on that now🤒

Unless OP meant half Sovereign? You can get bullion half sovs from £160ish, £250 would bag a proof/low mintage/vintage collectible example. Keep your eye on the trade section, plenty on there.
Yes, I mean full and half. Anything good as a first time purchase. Thank you for that:)

With the gold content of a sovereign being 7.3224g, and spot currently at £40.62 at time of writing (total £297.44), you would will be very unlikely to get a sovereign for £250. Try tracking the cost of gold here (or similar) https://www.gold.co.uk/gold-price/week/ounces/GBP/ and identify where you can buy for a decent premium over spot.
Saying that, if you do find sovereigns for £250 let me know! 😀
Thank you for that, have edited the budget to £330.

This is almost £50.00 under spot. £315.00 may be slightly more reasonable.
Thank you for that, all new to this. So don’t know nothing regarding costs or anyhting.

Hi,
Hope everyone is well. I am looking to purchase my first sovereign coin🤞. Prefer for the coin to appreciate. My budget is around £330 max. Not sure if I need to increase my budget or will I be able to find a good sovereign within this price range?
Any suggestions on what to buy for a first time buyer?
Please mention your first purchase too, I’d be interested to know!Regards

Now is a great time to invest in gold. Personally I'd be looking at Britannias or Sovereigns as they are well recognised and easy so shift when it comes to selling them.
I’ve been looking at sovereigns , any
particular ones you recommend?

“Cheap” doesn’t really exist in PM terms.
Close to spot does but it’s a very tight market in terms of spread, hence you will not be able to arb your purchases across different sales venues.

Makes sense, thank you so much!

It's because you mentioned the importance of £10 to your side of the deal and perhaps accidentally implied that you weren't considering the importance of £10 to the seller.
I can see your main point to the topic is that you accidentally raised your offer when a lower price was already agreed. Kind of like a Trigger moment off Only Fools And Horses 😂
Lesson learned either way. Always stick to a deal. The seller was kind enough to let you off, although they didn't have to because it was your mistake.
Yeah made a silly mistake🥴, yes. Thank you:)

I think you need to figure that out yourself. I can not help you with your personal taste really. You can buy bullion sovereigns close to spot or rare high graded ones. Did you read up on them? : https://www.chards.co.uk/blog/numismatic-information-and-coin-collecting-guides/a/sovereign
Going to read on this today! Thank you:)

... and it does not matter to the other person you are trying to screw over?
Your comment also carries the clear implication that the other person does not matter either.
Perhaps you should have used a noun instead of a verb as your thread title. 🙂
The other person does matter, of course he does. I don’t treat people rudely and my parents have always taught me to respect others.
Also I did let him know it was up-to him if he wanted to return the extra money as it was a mistake from my side and he was kind enough to return that money.

In fairness, I think the OP has learned two valuable lessons here and has actually made this thread worthwhile.
Firstly, always follow through on your agreement. Whether buying or selling, it is vital to stick to your word.
Secondly, be careful starting topics. I'm sure this one is regrettable, however well intended it may have been.
Yes, two lessons well learnt! All new to the forum and it was my first purchase on this site.
Know what to do and look out for next time.

but..
I am not convinced that "...the OP has learned..."🙂
Haha, why’s that🤨

Well i can only speak for myself , as a useless saver and investor my Sovereigns have made me "comfortable"😉 , without the gamble of trying to get rich . Stacking a nice Sovereign , cost averaging over the years will certainly make a poor man comfortable. And best of all , the Government can't get their hands on it when the bill for Barmy Boris mad spending comes in.
Interesting , need to get into sovereigns after some research!

Some of your comments seem confusing, confused, or both, but the above seems crystal clear.
You agreed a deal (contract) at £445, then you freely admit that you tried to renegotiate the price downwards in your favour. This is not an ethical or acceptable way of trying to transact business in the UK or most other civilised countries, although it may be standard practice in some parts of the world.
Is your honour or reputation really worth as little as £5?
You would only ever pull a similar trick on me once, ever!
🙂
Was a £10 difference in the whole thing, and every £ matters to me!:)

Perhaps start a new topic. "Advice on First Sovereign Purchase" or something like that. State your budget, preference for it to appreciate, and ask for suggestions.
That could be quite interesting, what sovereign people might choose if it were their first time purchase...
Think that will be my next thread! Thank you!

Hi @muneeb Folk are always happy to ask questions but it might be worth you using the forum search function for questions like:
- What books on Sovereigns are there
- What Sovereigns should I buy
These and many other questions are tackled almost weekly - you may get a faster answer to your questions in this way.
Best

Hi there,
Thank you for that. I will look out for those.

Imagine marrying a woman but spotting out a more attractive woman between the wedding wow and the bridal night. I think the families of some brides would kill you on the spot, certainly most would beat you the c**p out of you. Pacta sunt servanda. This is not specific to the precious metal market or the silver forum. If I was the seller, I'd give you negative feedback and warn every potential seller of you - and insist you pay.
I did pay, and you’ve understood what I said wrong mate.
I didn’t ask for my money back, just the price that we agreed on first. Issue is sorted anyway and I should get my metal this week!:)

If you agree on a price that should be the agreed price. If you need more time to think before making a deal I think it's better to say that up front than to change your mind.
I appreciate you might not have been buying metals for long but from some of your threads and messages if the £ price movements worry you then perhaps better buying either smaller pieces or just sitting on your cash a little longer if you don't feel comfortable right now. Maybe it would put your mind at ease more to watch the price movements for a period of time before converting some £ to gold?Hi there,
Thank you for advice. The whole figure in our conversation got muddled up in the middle of the conversation. We were talking about £445. It was a confusion in our convo and he has returned the extra money that was sent.
Got the deal we were initially talking about. Also, yes the threads were just advice on if it was a good time to invest in gold right now due to the drop etc. Got small pieces today.regards

So I was negotiating a deal with someone on this website for gold, was initially getting it for £445 and I was ready to buy at that price and so was the seller. I accidentally wrote £455 or 450 final price? And he agreed on 450..
ive made the purchase and it hasn’t been sent out yet. Can I get my money back or do I have to suffer the loss:/ as I was getting a 10 g much cheaper directly from bullion .

Hi there,
Thank you so much for your help and guidance! I’ve seen the best value ones but I don’t want a random sovereign.
Do you see potential in the 2021 Sovereign increasing over time?
