  1. I'd send them back complaining about lack of selection. 🤣

Do you think that the graded section of the buy and sell tends to be overlooked by a lot of members though (myself included). Cheap, close to spot purchases and quick sales are what most are looking for.

    Information

Last few on here have gone for between £700 and £750 ( for a PF70 ) if you want a guide price.

Still regarded as a special issue, thanks to the one off reverse.
  5. Received from Drake Sterling this morning, only five days after purchase despite coming from Australia. These are my fourth and fifth examples of the rare Melbourne Short Tail, an AU50 and an AU53, which are now going into storage for a few years. Hopefully there won't be many more on the market in the near future. If you have one, hold onto it, they just got rarer.
  6. I posted 6 sovs valued at £2400 to CoR on Friday by SD. Cost £12. Of course, the value is only what you paid for them as RM insurance wiill require proof of what you paid,
  7. Anyone new to them will no doubt get an introductory phone call in the next few days, pushing their proof coins (like I did). I stopped him in his tracks when I pointed out that the £899 proof 2021 sov he was trying to sell me was being sold by Chards for £599. (Are they new, he asked) 🤣 Then informed him that it was a one off purchase due to price, and not interested in any other products. I've never heard from them since. Show you know what you are talking about and they soon lose interest.
  8. Thought I would resurrect this thread as it is what first got me interested in this particular variant. I stumbled across one for sale on this forum a couple of months ago, which had been overlooked for several weeks of being for sale, and found this thread while contemplating whether to buy it. After obtaining that first one, I went looking for others, and was surprised to find that despite their (then) R4 rarity in Marsh, a number were cropping up for sale. Steve Hill has now reclassified these as R5 in Marsh, which is questionable as I know the whereabouts of at least six outside of the ones mentioned earlier in this thread. Even if the original R4 status stood though, it is still a rare coin. These are my three that I have so far.
  9. A couple more acquired over the last couple of days. 2009 Proof Sovereign, which will be heading for grading tomorrow and another 1891M Short Tail already graded AU53.
  10. He basically announced that his company sold "c**p". Of course, the media reported his words verbatum on every front page the next day, destroying his firms reputation. Cannot see any relevance between Ratner and what is being discussed in relation to LawrenceChard's organisation. Nor can I see that Chards contravene any part of the legislation that it is suggested they are breaking by Robda1968. Any delay in being able to supply is clearly communicated prior to purchase. Try buying a brand new car and getting a guaranteed delivery date at the time of purchase.
  11. Between £375 and £385 I'd guess. Oops. Wrong again even after you gave the answer.
  12. The circulation figure has been the subject of debate of course. Marsh and Spink say 323, but the mint says 650 and annecdotal evidence that the issue sold out in ten minutes. There couldn't have been over 300 returns, could there?
  13. I have also found Spink's Coins of England and the United Kingdom an invaluable source for identifying coins which may have greater than bullion value, even in lower grades. Both the pre-decimal and decimal editions are available as ebooks on Google Play Books, which is far more convenient. I have instant access to them on my tablet or phohe. 14. Something I ask myself too. Over 2/3rds of my (albeit relatively small) collection are older than 100 years old, but for the most part all are VF of better (or were sold as such). Judging by selling prices I see for slabbed coins, it would appear that most command in excess of the £25 cost of getting it graded, over the price that non graded examples secure. Of course, I'm still a rookie at this game. i'd love to have someone cast an eye over my own collection (or photos of at least) and give some idea of what would benefit from being graded.
  15. Which is why I started collecting sovereigns, because money in a savings account can be worth nothing overnight. The collapse of the Russian banks taught me that. Savings that would buy you a car, suddenly were worth nothing when the banks reopened. Word has it the US banks are in trouble with insufficient cash reserves.
  16. Sob... just working out the inflation adjustnent, you would be paying £73,000 today for 1000 sovereigns, worth £308,000. It brings home just how much just the intrinsic value has changed not even allowing for the added value of coins that are now 50+ years older. Many of them have never seen circulation either.
  17. That for me is another key factor. Sovereigns are more afforable on a regular basis, have a better chance of being sold at a premium based on date, grade and rarity, and easy to offload when short of a couple of hundred quid and need cash quick.
  18. To be honest, I look at 10g bars of gold and feel the same way. I only started this game two months ago, knowing nothing about any of the factors you listed. I found that looking for the subtle differences, learning how to identify different obverse faces, and searching out the best deals which are likely to increase in value over the next few years has been addictive. Two months on from my first purchase, I am up to 35 of the things, and starting to expand Into slightly higher graded coins now.
  19. Twins: Revised to R5 from R4 in the new addition of Marsh. A third is on the way from Australia. All have been through the verification process and slabbed.
  20. I have, in my collection of £5 silver Piedfort's the one issued commemorating Phillip's retirement from public life in 2017. The COA is number 15 out of 1144 minted (according to the RM). Just curious, because I have no intention of breaking up the collection of Senior Royal family notable milestones, does the low issue number have any bearing on desirability to collectors.
