Agree and i think so too...i also think all coin issues will be mainly for commemorative purpose in future, coz as u said, contactless payment is major and preferred payment mean nowadays. Maybe RM also forsee this and close down their overseas mint departure.
-
I don't think that's the case for Shield sovereign?

-
I think in medium to long run, physical banknotes and coins maybe only left for commemorative purpose.

Presumably in this new plant they can also recover the gold from sub-standard proof coins. 🤣
Oh, maybe they have to hire more employees for that task due to its usual standard😅.

I’m not complaining, but “Starting in 2024…” sounds like this is going to be another range.
I’m just thinking how about they just honour their prior commitment to the British Monarchs range instead? 😟
Yes, in the registration page, RM mentioned coins instead of coin.

Hi all,
I have a ridiculous amount of old GB coins and my plan is when I am having a bit of a bad time (occasionally need to spend 2/3 days in bed at a time). To help keep my sanity ( or loose the little I have left) I was wanting to go through them to see if there was any scare ones in there.
Problem is I have no idea what the semi/key dates are.
Has anyone come across a cheat sheet that I can reference for the different denominations. I have found loads of options for USA but haven't been able to find one for GB.
All the best,
Chris.
Hi Chris, most of the Victorian coins worths some money, also Edward VII halfcrown and Florin. This is only a brief statement, for details, you may also refer to the site on top of that mentioned by Stuntman, www.allcoinvalues.com. Also auction results of London Coins, Spink etc. will be helpful, however the precise value will depend on date, die and quality of the coin. You may also post some pics here and see if someone may give further ideas towards it.

Think it is likely some kind of speculation mean only, instead of storing wealth, coz there is no guarantee you can redeem physical gold in the future. I am curious to learn about their buy-sell spread when it's launched.
-
I see this also. At £533 for a single maundy set, i would expect all sets are at very very supreme quality sets, which i don't think they would🤣.

I have bought 2 King George V silver coins from RM site when i started collecting numismatic coins years way back. After a year, i realized i can purchase similar grade ones at 50-60% from markets, a lesson learned and luckily not sky rocket prices were involved. These 2 coins are still kept by me up to now and remind me the story behind😅.

Anyone noticed the sales figure of 2020 Britannia pieces?

As per my experience before, Perth Mint quality is in general better than Royal Mint, especially the coin is most likely problem free. Also, some of their designs are very good, like Swan, Eagle, Kookaburra etc.

As mentioned, use saleroom website. You need to check a couple of things though … auction house fees and postage. Some places actually either do their own postage or are expensive for postage.
i have bought a variety of coins this way and never had any problems.
Yes, and also some are without postage service, which need buyers to arrange pickup on their own.

I bought one of these coins directly from the RM on issue.
Personally I don't think it will be a particularly good investment, compared to say the Platinum Jubilee BU 5 sovereign coin for example. But it's an impressive coin with a special reverse and is always likely to hold some appeal to collectors.
I'm pleased to own the coin, but wouldn't buy it purely for investment. The same money buys about seven bullion sovereigns, which are likely to be better investments, but not as visually impressive. The BU quintuple would also be harder to sell than the bullion sovereigns, and of course you are selling the entire investment/coin in one go, rather then potentially selling the bullion sovereigns in stages.
Gratuitous photos:
Totally agree, same view.... To be honest, this is a very nice coin on hand for appreciation purpose.

20%😮🤔 apart from one place that I know, you need to let us in to your secret cheap auction house(s)!😮🤔
Spink, Lockdales, the 20% is before the VAT.

Let me take a guess from my position of near ignorance, £250?
Lovely Gothic florin, 2 different varieties. I think your estimate is more or less around the market price at auctions at this moment, but please do not forget the additional auction premium at approximate 20% on top of the hammered price.

Agree with Stuntman view, 1902 is not a tough year for collection. Proof sets were issued in that year, so that many good examples are being kept after decades, therefore it's less difficult to find a decent 1902 coins comparing with other Edward's years. Similar case is also applied for 1887, 1893, 1911, 1927, 1937 etc.

In contrast to this sort of 'fake', there are other fake coins out there which do intend to deceive people into thinking they are the genuine items. These are often made by obtaining a genuine coin, taking impressions of it and then casting the fakes from these impressions. So all the fakes look the same as each other, but will closely resemble the genuine coin. 1934 Wreath Crowns are often faked in this way but other coins such as 1905 shillings and half crowns are also faked like this, and for some reason the 1818 half crown is faked too. I have one of these faked 1818 half crowns, which I keep as a curiosity and a warning.
This kind of fake is one of the most trouble issues in collecting coins, as some can be very very like to the real ones, at least to my amateur eyes.
