  1. Hello stackers, collectors and fans of PM's. Gold Sovereigns have always bothered me, I first bought one to commemorate the birth of my first daughter back in 2008 and was so disappointed in the colour. I did the same for my second daughter and it was the same shiny penny colour that I loved as a kid at Christmas but was very un-gold like. So when I started stacking and collecting gold I favoured the 24K 9999 varieties as they satisfied that primal desire that true gold inspires and avoided Sovereigns like the plague. I did however recently buy a 2022 jubilee sovereign because I liked the design and then a 1958 and 63 Gillick sovereign because they just looked like gold. When compared side by side the difference in the 22K alloy is so pronounced (Apologies for the photo quality) Apparently the alloy was changed from a silver mix to a copper mix back in 2000 and my 3 questions for discussion are : Who prefers the old colour to the new colour? Can the mint be petitioned to revert to the old mix? Have I missed something? (I have only done a surface level Google search so quite probably).
  2. Just got 2 more sovereigns from @Sh97if, a 1958 and a 1963. Beautiful colour on these older sovereigns whereas the newer sovereigns look more like shiny 1 pence pieces to me. Probably why I prefer 999 gold coins but these older sovereigns have definitely turned my head. They look like gold should look.
  3. Today I received a beautiful jubilee sovereign from @Solachesis . At first i thought it was a proposal and for an instant I considered the short term pain against the long term gain of half his stack, but on opening the box there it was, my own bit of gold for a price I was happy to pay.
  4. I will take the jubilee sovereign if still available please.
  5. The other day I received my latest 3 oz SF round from @BackyardBullion and I put it with my others . It looked shiny and new whereas the others where toning . It made me think, to polish or not to polish. The early toning on the kit kat bar is definitely giving it a new dimension. Side by side you can easily see the difference even though my photos don't do them justice.
  6. Yesterday I received from panda six pack a double Fenrir and my first ever bit of crypto currency. A silver bitcoin, and not knocking crypto it's a bitcoin I can understand and trust even if it is worth a fraction of the original digital fiat version.
  7. Today I received a beautifully designed and made ornate crucifix poured by Silver Angel. Even the packaging and box it came in was a work of art and an absolute joy to open. Which is why the 3 2023 silver Britania's I got from Chards today in their little plastic baggies seem a bit terrible in comparison. I wonder if the gold Brit I ordered at the same time but had to pay for separate postage will come in the same protective baggie as their silver?.
  8. The "other day" I received a full set of silver stackable shields. I was only after one but panda six pack offered the full set for a price I couldn't refuse. Technically they are stackable bars but the design, high relief detail. immaculate quality and quirkiness put them on another level above most coins and bars. Thank you panda six pack👍
  9. Ha ha, I was just looking at my old ones and debating whether to polish or leave the tarnish and then I saw this post. It was meant to be, 3 oz number 35 for me please.
  10. What ever you can afford to lose. I've gone for a core of RM bullion because it's capital gains tax free but also some interesting bars and coins from around the world that I like personally, a few proof coins but I'm not convinced they are worth the premium. I have gone for some historical coins as well from around the world from small roman silver coins to victorian crowns. To hold these coins feeds the imagination as to who held/earned them ,what they have bought, where they have been. I think my favorite pieces though are my silver art cast pieces that are displayed on around my house. They are quite unassuming until you pick them up, feel the weight and really look at them. Your stack can and should be more than just a hedge against inflation and once you have a comfy amount I would recommend making it a bit more personal. Historically an ounce of silver was the value of 10 days labour I think and more recently in Venezuela an ounce of silver could feed a family for a month. A bit of gold and platinum is a good idea as well as it weighs less and takes up less room. Personally I have put about half my savings into PM'S as an insurance against quantative easing and inflation of the Fiat system.
  11. @GreatBritishBullion is based in Ireland I think and he sells at a reasonable price.
  12. Diversity is the key, for the dystopian future scenario. For me and my peace of mind I think it's a good idea to learn how to hunt, fish, trap, forage and butcher game. Practical skills and knowledge are just as comforting as a fat stack and great fun to learn and do. Very honest and humbling and there are more people than you think who can teach you these skills. Self sufficiency is well hard to sustain though so I'm hoping to keep the bushcraft as a hobby and my stack as a future tax free gift for my kids (post great reset). There will always be doomsayers telling you the end is nigh. You just dont want to get stuck in that echo chamber and listen to a variety of opinions. The one thing they will all have in common is it's just their opinion. If you can afford it and helps you sleep at night go for it. And if you have time and want a new hobby to keep you away from the forums buy and sell section , join an archery club and start an allotment.
  13. Yeah I'm jumping down that rabbit hole, a great idea with potential for some excellent (trippy) designs. I just hope they can do it justice. I will go for it anyway as one of my daughters is an Alice and the story is an old school favourite in our family. I've done my fair share of mushrooms so hopefully mine will get bigger 🍄🍄🍄
  14. Yeah, metal detector find in south Lincolnshire. I just hope there wasnt a bone in it when it was found.
  15. This WEEK I received loads, my postman has been like a fairy tale dwarf miner delivering PM's on a daily basis. A 2oz perth mint dragon with 2 x 1oz tiger and dragon coins. A 1oz gold 2021 brit A queens 95th birthday proof silver collaboration of the royal mint and Canadian mint. Bought in a fit of patriotism but disappointingly plain. And lastly my favourite, a silver roman ring nearly 2000 years old. My imagination runs wild when I hold it, priceless.
  16. I know it's made in china but hopefully wont break the secound time I get it out and there is nothing digital about it😀
  17. Just recieved my new credit card. This bad boy is actually worth money, the polar opposite of my other one. 50g of stunning and quirky 999 silver all in a great presentation box.
