  1. I am on my fifth quartered arms now and still it has issues that are worse than that. Eventually I figure I'll just have to satisfy myself that it will never be perfect.
  2. LD stands for "Large Date". The coin on the right is the small date version from the Shanghai and the one on the left is the large date that arrived today from the Shenyang mint. Each mint had its own dies with slight differences between them. You can see the main difference in the typeface of the date.
  3. I think pandas, unlike most bullion coins, have generally been treated as "special edition" and looked after for the most part. Their mintages being smaller meant they were not "stacked" and stuffed into tubes like generic britannias/maples etc. I have always felt that pandas in general were and are of a higher quality than other bullion in their design, strike and presentation than bullion offerings from every other country except probably Perth mint (personal opinion). Hence yes, while this is the standard BU version, they are IMO special! There is a proof version of the 1998 but it is colourised https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/chinese-coin-prices-detail.aspx?ChineseSetID=278 And don't get me thinking about starting a proof collection!!
  4. 1998 LD joins the 🐼 panda 🐼 zoo today!
  5. A huge day!! The 1998 Large Date panda I've been on the hunt for for many months is over! This incredible specimen arrived from Germany this morning! Goes well with my small date and gets me one coin closer to completing my one ounce collection Just the elusive 1999 serif and maybe the prooflike 1989 to find now and I will have all the main varieties bullion 10 yuan silver pandas! Thank you for the tip off @DavePanda Call off the search @Pandao!
  6. A new area for me. I was keen to find a really sharp looking George and the Dragon crown and found this at a price I could afford. It's obviously had a scrub down at some point but I really don't mind as for me it's those clearly preserved details I wanted to see.
  7. Interesting thread. As someone who's recently made the transition from collector/stacker to amateur trader to dealer, I am reading with interest and hearing what people are saying wrt the trade section, which is an important extension of the community, and can see that having it flooded with posts from a small number of members at the expense of other members is not conducive to the community spirit. I am always keen to hear feedback on my listings in the trade section, whether that be on the frequency, content, quality of offerings, pictures and price. I'll certainly be taking some advice from the comments here. I do feel it's excessive to list lots of items in individual listings so try to group items into listings to reduce the flooding. On the topic of the sections, I do totally agree that the current split of ungraded/graded is poor, and a more logical and even split to me would be: Silver Gold Other metals (platinum, palladium, copper etc etc) The ungraded section is way too busy. It is a jumble sale. But where ungraded is jumble, graded is tumble weed. Split it more evenly as per the above and each section will strike a better balance of busyness. Posts won't be swamped out within an hour, and sections will get visited by buyer's according to what metal they're in the market for. Dealer sub forums I don't agree with, as they tend to be mostly ignored and under-utilised with a couple of notable exceptions
  8. A bit late for Christmas, chocolate coins! A very unique arrival today. One of the cleverest adapted coins I've ever seen
  9. Agreed with the above. Depends greatly on condition. A top condition example is worth upwards of 160. If you can take higher quality pictures without top half of capsule we will be better able to narrow it down. Take care not to touch the coin with your hands at all. If you are interested I can help you with the sale of this. I have one in my collection so not for me!
  10. A crowning addition to my @BackyardBullion collection Absolutely superb piece, bought from the person who commissioned it. This is one serious chunk of metal! Love the element details with atomic weight, melting point etc.
  11. A stunner of a coin. Never seen anything else like it. Thank you @1stsovereign
  12. Fantastic! Platinum is only 11% denser than gold, and it looks to me from your photos that it is quite a lot thinner than 11%. This may have to do with the gold one having a slightly more raised rim.
  13. I hope one will turn up! Platinum is the densest of them all. It is the same diameter as the gold one but a hair thinner. I have had those three together in the past.... https://www.thesilverforum.com/topic/4867-usa-canadian-coins-thread/?do=findComment&comment=399110
  14. Got these beautiful gold and silver Maples from @Agaumac. Had to take up the opportunity to get a palladium one as well of course. Now for platinum....
  15. Oh, do you think you'll have competition? I won't be in this time Dave - all yours! 🤞
  16. I thought something very weird was happening here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133995841051?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 But this seems to be the going rate for this coin! Sadly out of my league but wow - that's some numismatic! @DavePanda @Agpanda
  17. Regarding 1oz/30g silver pandas, the last year of plastic film sheets was 2005. These were in capsules inside individually sealed sheets of I think 10 that could then be cut up into singles. Since 2006 there were no film pouches around capsules. I am not sure when the trays began but I have seen 2015s in flimsy trays of 30 like you get biscuits in, and 2016s in rigid hinged trays of 15 which they have come in since then. @DavePanda would be able to fill the gaps here.
  18. All's well that ends well. The buyer suddenly miraculously said it had arrived! Funny that... All's well that ends well. The buyer suddenly miraculously said it had arrived! Funny that...
  19. I am just having this situation. Posted 4 items in one package to the buyer by Special Delivery. Tracking shows the parcel was delivered, and signed "COV" which may have something to do with Covid? The buyer has raised an "item not received" claim. I have the receipt showing the item was sent at the post office, and a photo of the parcel in the post office with the tracking number showing clearly. I'm nervous as if eBay decides in the buyers' favour I could lose over £350. I'm not sure what I can do to protect myself against this situation.
  20. Very interesting (and again VERY heavy!) package arrived today... Tied closed for over 50 years... Even before decimalisation... Only a fiver worth... Of uncirculated copper pennies. from 1967
  21. Not sure how I feel about this one, but I was kind of compelled to get a ruthenium finish panda for something different in my panda run. The hologram finish on the pandas is really interesting with a crackled texture, not sure it's to my taste, but it's the temple side I find looks very cool in ruthenium.
  22. Some new lovely bits of platinum for my stack. Bought before yesterday's dip but should be good long term. I love platinum eagles.
  23. This came in a jiffy bag today. Fabulous old safe, fully operational and weighs an absolute ton! Not to mention a sight to behold. Will need a wee touch up and a clean up inside. Little project I'm looking forward to!
