completed (By Platinum Member) 2017 1/4oz Griffin of Edward III Gold Coin Queen's Beasts

Recommended Posts

I have the 1oz Griffin and also the 1/4 oz Griffin, and I paid a hefty premium on top of spot price at the time.

If you can find the 1/4 oz for less than £500 with the current spot price then you will be lucky indeed.

The problem is that collectors simply do not want to sell. If you owned one would you sell it for less than £500 with the current spot price?

Anyone else who bought one to flip later down the line, will want to make a profit on top of their initial investment which isn't unreasonable for them to ask for this.

You may be able to find someone who will sell you the full set of 1/4 oz coins with the presentation box included. Then you could sell your duplicates at your leisure and make some profits back yourself.

I don't know if I'll be able to buy it cheaper than £500, but it's always worth trying and looking, because you never know.

But I also know that not everyone buys only for profit, but also for collecting, sometimes someone has a double and wants to exchange or sell it to buy another one they are looking for.

I know that Griffin and probably Dragon are more expensive than other QBs, but I bought Red Gragon here much cheaper than everyone thought.

Today spot gold is £430. Not everyone is looking for a profit of several dozen percent, gold is often sold here with only a few percent profit, or even at the spot price.

Yes, I could have bought the full set 1/4oz QB with box, even for less than £4,500 with the box, but I didn't want to mess around, I just wanted to complete what I have.

Oh and it just occurred to me, thanks to you 👍 , that I can exchange something I have for something I need, maybe I'll try, for example, exchange my 1/4oz gold proof QB White Greyhound for 1/4oz Griffin bullion...

Firstly I would like to say that I'm very happy if I've helped you to come up with a way of getting something you want by exchanging for something you already have. That's got to be the smartest way of reaching your stacking/collecting targets.

And with regards to your comments about the fact that most people sell their items on this forum at, or just above spot, and are not seeking to achieve double digit profit margins, I wholeheartedly agree. I sold a 1oz Brit on here 2 days ago for £1735 (cheaper than any online bullion dealer) when spot was hovering just above the £1700 mark which was a very fair price, and the buyer was very happy with their purchase.

To be honest most buyers on this forum are very savvy and won't pay over the odds anyway, so anyone trying to sell at too high of a premium would simply be wasting their time. However all sellers, and I do mean every member of this forum, still want to try and achieve some profits on their sales from time to time, and while spot is at an all time high who can blame them. This is the perfect time to try and make a few quid. Especially if they have an item that is desirable and there are buyers who cannot source what they want from elsewhere without being completely fleeced.

None of us are buying gold so we can sell for a loss or to just break even at a later date. And of course then there are items that will always carry a higher premium than other items for one reason or another. I have sold many items on this forum and actually lost money, especially with silver. So it's important for me to try and make a small profit on whichever items I can, to help balance out those losses. The same will be true for all sellers on this forum.

And at the end of the day an item is worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it. Its the old addage of supply and demand. Sometimes, if there's an item that you want badly enough, you will have to let your heart rule your head and simply pay the asking price. The rest of the time you let your head rule and only make sensible purchases that are within your expectations of what price you should pay.

I told you to buy that proof Griffin for £450 and rub it on dirt to make it bullion but you didn’t listen. 😂 It’s funny that a proof griffin can be found for cheaper than bullion ones.

yes, I know, I didn't think about it and I lost the chance, oh well, life... maybe next time 🙈

Well, I also noticed that bullion can be more expensive than proof 🙃
