Ebay Authenticity Guarantee

I think this is good news from ebay.  Just received an email that from the 11 October any jewellery sold for more than £500, you can post directly to ebay who will authenticate and post on to buyer. Any returns goes the same way.  This will stop scammers posting back a Christmas card or a swapped item. 

I wished they would include gold coins. 

A step in the right direction and no extra charge to the seller

Yea kinda weird they don't do this already for precious metals, it should be standard for gold 

I bought an item a while ago (not precious metals) on eBay and the seller offered RMSD. I didn't realise but the package was automatically sent to an eBay Authenticator and then sent on to me. It took 5 days instead of one and I got a little NFC tag with the authentication details on it. The item was like £170 IIRC so if they do it automatically for that then why not for gold?

I can only imagine some muppet at eBay receiving a nice gold proof coin only to take it out of the capsule and get it all greasy before sending it on 🤦‍♂️
