Personally though the IRB effigy isn't my favourite. I do wonder what everyone's opinions are on the various portraits of our late Queen as some seem to be more popular than others.

Good question, if you look at the 3rd portrait by Raphael Maklouf there was not a lot minted and sold as per previous years but they are now sought after.  Personally I like the 1st portrait (Mary Gillick)  as it has an Artdeco inspired design.    The second portrait  (Arnold Machin) is the one I most remember being a kid and a 50p was a massive coin in my tiny hand. Agree about the IRB it just too round for my liking, the 5th portrait Jody Clark is very good as he wasn't scared to put some realism into the portrait.

Jody Clarke also made the Australia/EIC version in which the Queen looked a bit angry. In my opinion both IRB and JC(UK) portraits are quite realistic, but I don't like IRB because of the melancholy it somehow conveys.

The TDC ones are sort of a joke. Of the legitimate issues the Canadian one must be the worst. Looks more like some Clinton woman...

If we do the right thing this time, we might have to do the right thing again next time.

Yes the Australian and IEC depictions of QEII are best forgotten.   I think it was a deliberate move to not make them aesthetically attractive.

Also the Australian bullion coins are odd in that design of the nugget/kangaroo/swan changes every year. Some people crave to complete them, and others just buy Brits/Maples/Buffalo etc. Some American guy once said the Kangaroo was a failure and I very much agree. Same as the Pandas from China. CGT is one reason these aren't seen often in the UK. But people buy bullion for the weight, and changing design compels people to collect them, which I think is not a good idea.
