Yes

I've thought about that too recently. Havn't got any platinum yet. Sadly I only started out in jan 2020 and didn't know a lot. I nearly bought a 1oz platinum lion of england for just under £700 I think it was then. Hindsight eh? ☹️

Hindsight is a powerful thing mucker. I've only just started looking at gold and silver last year. I've learnt that buying only what you would be happy to keep long term is the way forward.

...say you had a job needing doing and the job cost's £1300? You hand me a 1oz gold coin worth £1550..chances are that I can't give you back metal as change.

I can, but it'd be a hell of a lot of copper, you'd probably need a wheelbarrow. 😁

I could even throw in a few Churchill crowns to sweeten the deal.

I did briefly look into base metals but the premium for a 1kg fine copper bar is about 400% over spot.  Unless I'm looking in the wrong place I can't see how you could speculate on base metals in quantities less than tons.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.
