Coin Vs Bar

SilverCloud

Recommended Posts

I tried searching but couldn't find anything relating to this.

I thought bars had a smaller premium but upon looking from dealers i can get a 1 kilo coin for around £630 (inc shipping) but the bars (1 kg) are closer to £700

Could anyone explain or suggest why I wouldn't get the coin over the bars??

Cheers

On a like for like then the bars are cheaper.

If we're talking EU then the bar will be more expensive as that would be fully VAT rateable whereas the coin would be on the margin scheme.

There are some UK dealers who also use the margin scheme on coins so for them the bars would more expensive than the coins, but on a standard VAT rate throughout, the bars should be cheaper.

The lowest premium silver I found was in the coin-bar form, 5 kilo was the 'cheapest' premium wise but too large for my purposes. I went with kilo bars instead which were still cheaper than the kilo coins but not by much to be honest. If you can find kilo coins cheaper then yep its a no brainer :)

If you want to buy a bar at coin prices then look at the coin bars that are available on the margin scheme. There are a few dealers who sell them I think STG do them in various sizes.

STG are selling 'coin bars'.  So in theory they are selling bars at coin weight prices and VAT free.  That said, they still seem rather expensive by comparison.

I got mine from silberling.de, STG didnt stock them at the time, but you are right STG charge too much for them;
