Products used to test silver

Recommended Posts

So... If you have seen my youtube video you will see that my efforts at testing my coins with a set of scales, was unproductive.

Now as a tight northerner I was very disappointed to find that the cheap scales I bought were as much uses as tits on a fish!

So, can anyone please recommend a decent brand of scales and a caliper that will not break the bank?
Thanks in advance.

some scales that look the same but don't perform the same.

with companies ever cutting back on the quality of products,

I was thinking it would be most helpful if people could post

the exact model numbers of reliable scales they've used.

I use on balance truweigh TW-100. not the cheapest but never

out on a retest by more than its error rate of 0.01g. only goes

up to 100g though.

(0.01g accuracy and 2-300g max capacity is probably the

preferred option)

Be warned that the cheapest scales from China can be erratic / noisy / drift & sensitive to everything and not worth waiting for.

Some are okay though and it might just be case of pot luck - I have over time purchased 4 scales and 2 are still working fine.

My best buy however was from a UK source and the model is Henry 50.
Weighs up to 50g with 0.01g resolution and has a large area plate.
Very stable & uses standard AAA batteries.

Cost between £20 and £30 though but well worth the money in my opinion.
