Hello, newcomer to metals / Savings

Hi all,

Didnt even know "stacking" was a thing until i had an idea to buy a bar of gold (i haven't yet) mainly because it looks cool and shiny.! lol

But after watching youtube videos checking out prices etc, i had a revaluation! Sadly i don't have any savings whatsoever as i kind of addicted to spending, i get money and wages and i go and blow it, 40yrs i been doing the same thing! So after seeing a few videos from stacker's it dawned on me, that if i get an itch to go blow some money on something pointless, i could instead buy some Gold/Silver coins/bars and firstly invest that money i was going to blow, and secondly hopefully have a cool collecting hobby.

So thats why i am here!

Welcome to the forum! A great idea to start purchasing gold and silver coins rather than spending all of your income! I think you will enjoy this hobby :)

Hi mate , try not to buy singles if you can it works out much more cost effective if you can buy multiples , if you are seeing this as a way of saving you need tobuy as cheap as you can.. if you can save even a quid a coin a few years down the line that is all going to add up

Thanks guys, you are right i know. But i have to confess, just ordered my first single coin, been watching videos and reading about silver coins for few weeks now and still never seen one in person or held one, so i had to fix that "itch".
I will heed your advice in future and try to stick with 5oz purchases, but for now i shall await my first ever silver coin, a little excited..
(2016 PM Kookaburra btw)

I know what you mean about wanting to get started , so congrats on starting .

If you are going to be buying off ebay have a think about buying some calipers, scales and a neodymium rare earth magnet to check for fakes also read any listings very carefully, steer well clear of any listing that says plated , untested , nickel silver or any listings that are suspiciuosly cheap and basically don't touch anything from china or anyone that has feedback buying from china

WOW, ok so the unwrapping of my first ever coin was kind of exciting, one coin is not exactly a "collection" haha, but i will always remember my first coin, Silver is very pretty indeed or is that shiny..
