Hi guys,

Im looking for some expertise here. I have an old, old heirloom. Been in the family for generations. So much so, that I haven’t the foggiest what it is.

Could anyone tell me, what is this mighty fine specimen???

Any guesses welcome....

Possibly a COB which would have minted 1550ish to mid 1700,if it is, it should weigh 6.8 gms for 2 reales and multiples x2 for 4 reales ,then 8 reales ,however due to the way they where made some where heavily clipped

Can't really tell what the metal is by the photos, however these are supposed to be Silver if it is a COB.

Thanks wampum, that’s intriguing stuff. I’ll check that info out now, see where it takes me.
what’s left of it weighs 5.40g, but I have cheap scales and they ain’t perfect.

Hi sorry for some reason I saw it as Silver @dicker,

Very impressive collection @sixgun had a few really bad silver pieces, however all gone now. I only have a 1783 2 reale from EL Cazador left.

could it be a 8 Maravedis as it looks like a lion passant, although worn.

All interesting stuff!

Love the El Cazador Real's.

Apologies for the mangled reply above - it should have read "silver cob", but I think you worked it out!

Cheers

Dicker
