What to look out for when transferring precious metals within the EU?

Hi, I currently live and work in The Netherlands, however shortly I plan to move back to Hungary. I am concerned about what would happen if they notice on the border that I carry 30~35kg silver.

Are there any risks I should count with? Is there any chance the metals will get confiscated, or I have to pay money to proceed?

Normally there are no border checks, however this days many countrys have close the borders to stop the spread of Covid 19.  I'm 99% sure that this is valid for Hungary (you should check before setting off on the road).

Be prepared to spend a few hours at the border for health check.

Just in case, you should have bills/papers for all your PM.

@daca thanks for the heads-up. Hopefully this whole pandemic ends before I move.

@MickB the article you linked is actually quite worrying. If I am not mistaken, they can confiscate it. Having 30~35kg of silver in the trunk of the car seems fishy enough to flag it as criminal activity.
