Silver Penny.Worth a punt?

What about if it was sent off to be slabbed?

Can't really see the point to be honest mate. It's primary function seems to be a gift, and slabbing it removes that.

I can think of a thousand coins I'd send for grading before that.

Maybe not a good idea then, was just a thought.

Edit: What would you slab? and why?Can this stay in this thread or is this another subject?.

Normally people don't agree with me, but apoparently no one likes this coin, so I called one right for once! lol

Start a new topic for the "What you would slab" question if you like, that's probably a good idea for a thread! :)

my personal preference are coins that are unique.

eg a coin that is 100th anniversary of the start of

ww1 can only be struck to date 2014. this lucky

penny however can be struck with 2015 this year

2016 next year, etc. neither year seams special unless

you are giving it as a gift to a new born. it could be

special for the new born in years to come but not

for anyone else.

I do think that items marketed at specific occasions

are overrated with hefty premiums. personalised

gifts are much better.

This is such a HUGE question and is bound to get a lot of responses. Much better to have it's own topic. @lightjaw has started a new topic here: http://thesilverforum.com/topic/2953-slabbing-yes-or-no/

I agree with the new slab topic, what i am on about in this thread is the penny worth the effort, my slabbing of it was really an after thought.

@SilverPirate As with a lot of RM products, they are nice but rather expensive in my opinion. It may be hard to get back your premium when coming to sell in the future. Slabbing the coin would only add additional price and further limit the market.

If you like the coin and want to buy it for your collection then I would say buy it, but as an investment I don't think it's the best purchase.

To me the box is another reason not to buy it , a whacking great box just for a penny sized coin is a waste of storage space. I don't even like carded coins , I prefer to have my coins in caps.

And if I've read correctly the penny is not even a silver proof its only BU .

There are literally hundreds of coins that I would rather spend my cash on.

If you like it and think it will add to your collection then go for it but its not for me

They market it as a gift to "Celebrate a new baby's arrival and wish them good fortune in life"
