Interesting lot of shipwreck Silver at auction:

@StackSellRepeat- not British Silver, but undeniably this would be a fine acquisition for someone.

Rich I’m one of the watchers 😂 but this most definitely is out of reach unfortunately.

Ha! I’m watching too.

I’m just imagining my wife’s response to me suggesting investing our Christmas, next years holiday and rainy day cash would be 🤔

I can't see any, I'd always assumed it was melted down fro anything that was too far gone.

Bud I’m 100% sure you got this off eBay? I’m sure it’s the same one I seen & only reason I didn’t bid was the authenticity was some what lacking & the seller was unable to answer my questions at the time. The Birmingham assay reports confirms it‘s silver but that doesn’t prove much in regards to authenticity or origin. The actual shipwreck document could of always been printed off etc & damage in the centre i.e the tea stain ain’t doing much favours. Have you had the bar tested ?

I’m no expert or a professional in this mater please don’t take my words seriously, But I have a hard time believing this is genuine I could be totally wrong but somethings off here.

Sorry just read the COA it states COIN sorry bud you where conned 😡

Seller used an shipwreck coin COA with a standard bar of silver I suspect plus the condition is too could looks freshly poured, mould pattern looks similar to what we see today, it’s way too clean in regards too condition/pour etc...

I was thinking the same thing but didnt want to piss on anyones strawberries, I have seen things like this far too often in the militaria world, fake SS army passes where the fakers have found original old photographs or photographed a re-enactor on stocks of wartime paper, then aged the lot, most of it coming from Poland, UV light gives it away sometimes depending on the age of it.

Wouldn't be the first time I've been stung, thankfully didn't pay much.

We have all been stung at some time in our lifes, me personally several times, I even setup a forum years ago exposing fake militaria doing the rounds much to the annoyance of the dealers who were selling it, we live and learn, at least you know its silver.

Unfortunately there’s a lot of money in forging & these **** are aware of items as such carry high premiums, I know of a few guys who been burnt on similar items & even professionals at times are astonished in how good the forgers are getting.

Personally for items as such I would only buy directly at the auction room, If they have had a specialist confirmed the authenticity provided with certificates/paperwork Etc...

Paid £146.90 for 10.93 ounces, so had worse.  There's nothing on the assay certificate to even confirm it's that bar.  Slide tests fine so hopefully............Might take it into the local jeweller to check out.

Buying shipwreck treasure is somewhat interesting. Often expensive when released and then dips in value.

I am given to understand (ahem) that at least one government issues strongly worded letters / legal threats to those who own artifacts outside of the country where the artifacts were found... If anyone wants to know more details feel free to PM me!
