As said, the pro version measures through the whole coin, the non pro version only just a bit under the surface, thus if coins are plated you might not identify it as fake - I'm not sure how deep it measures exactly - if the real gold layer is thin enough you might still find it. In any case if you really want to be on the safe side, you need the pro version.
