This truly lovely 1885 Proof of Record half penny. Very rare, as not a proof year. The red / brown lustre is stunning in hand but I just cant capture in the photo’s - sorry. Also awaiting a halfpenny MS64 RB to put along as makes a nice presentation (i think!)

I was going to keep this one private, but I've had a pretty rubbish day so thought i’d share what landed this morning and has given me some joy before it goes to the vault. A very special 2002 4 coin gold maundy set (2002 mintage), a beautifully soft Gillick proof head, look how good the 1p is 😍, its tiny at 0.8g (22ct) . Only showed the 4p and 1p so not to fill the thread 😄

I have repatriated this 15th century treasure back to the UK from a superb US seller. The photos don’t do it any justice, its absolutely stunning and I’m very pleased!
For those interested, it is an Edward IV Gold Ryal or also called Rose Noble only minted between 1464 and 1470 and the year in that period identifiable by the mint mark in the legend, which on mine is a little difficult to ID but its a Long Cross Fitchée, if in any doubt (see the close up) there were no other crosses used in the period they were minted. This mark puts it as minted between 1469-1470, making it even rarer, only just before Henry VI was restored to the throne. On edwards second reign the mint started producing Angles which are entirely different design. The coin was minted in London, identifiable as no letter in the waves beneath the rose / kings vessel.
7.61grams of gold and approximately 35mm in diameter.
Side note: The coin was also imitated on the continent in the mint of Gorinchem for around 100yrs after this date (and also thought during Edwards exile in Belgium), these are often referred to as a “Flemish Ryal”.  Identifiable if put alongside each an original, one difference being the continental copy is often slightly larger in diameter.
NB, if anyone is wondering what the lump of dirty metal is in some of the photos, its an original brass coin weight for the Ryal that I was able to pick up from someone that had found it in the Thames mud. It was only a few pounds but I though makes a nice collection.

Clean sheet on a full 5 coin set, chuffed. Never had it happen before, but relieved as these are an expensive raw set.
 

Two beautiful coins today...
a 1911 Proof sovereign, that I won at the tail end of a random auction, hazy and difficult to judge, has come back beautiful, in a very high grade, very special and one of my favourite portraits:


And below is a true rarity, a Henry VIII 1544-47 Half Sovereign in what I think is superb condition considering its age. Doesn’t currently demand the attention of its larger brother of the same era or certainly the Henry VII Sovereign, but this is the first ever half sovereign. My thanks to @richatthecroftfor being a sounding board and supporting me during the purchase of this coin. Ive gone from tears to jubilation, certainty to uncertainty and back again many times and no doubt driven him slightly crazy 😂 EDIT: for those interested there is clearly a Pellet in Annulet on both sides, putting it at the Tower Mint and either type 2294 or 2295 from my reading of Spink (I'm not sure if I see a annulet on the inner ring of the obverse at 11o'clock or not, if there is then its 2295)

 

Ive had a few lovely coins back today and some great results, this however is one of my favourites. “Top Pop” at NGC and only one of two at this grade. Quite a rare and valuable little coin.
A tiny yet perfect proof 1839 silver Fourpence that at some point has sat alongside the fabulous Una and the Lion. If anyone needs it to complete their set let me know !! 😅
 

Im a bit in love with this, first and probably only medal i’ll have and probably over paid, but a gold (11.72g) 1897 Victoria Diamond Jubilee medal. Came with original box. Nice, alongside a sovereign for scale (act measures 24.3mm dia.) 




 

Bought it to flip, but its really nice so keeping it! 😮😄

After what has been nearly a 2 month wait, this lovely 2016 Proof 2Sov eventually arrived and very satisfying it is too (other than the annoying tiny black fleck on the inside of the slab at the bottom left). I know in purest terms it shouldn’t sit amongst the special reverses, but I couldn't help myself lining them up when I was cataloguing it prior to coming away from its new home, photos not to my normal standard as I forgot to take my lens, sorry...

And these… perseverance has paid off on the 1979, ive graded many many 1979 proofs to get  to a 70 🤩

I had some spectacular grading results back of some beautiful coins today, so before they go off to the safe I thought id share this special set. @Chrisplym 🥳😉
 

Not sure I’ll get away with this 😄 but there is gold in the nib!? A very lovely thing, a present from the children combining all major reason for a present this year into one (inc xmas coming 😊)

With the lovely weather of the bank holiday weekend I felt like sharing my collection so here it is. I took a load of pretty pics before putting everything back in lock up. I think I've accumulated a decent collection. I have a few outliers that I'll most probably sell on the forum at some point which are not part of below so keep a look out. I also may part with the bullion Britannia set (feel free to drop me a message if you're interested).

I was talked out of buying the gold Una and the Lion by someone with  comments like this ⬆️.   Now I trust my gut and vote with my cash......Thank god I started listening to myself   I'm far richer now.  
The market is big enough for people to buy what they want.
